Academic probation--undergrad

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Has anyone been put on academic probation and gotten accepted into nursing?

My aunt, who I was really close with past away April of last year, and that really affected my grades toward the end, so I was put on academic warning.

This past semester I was going through depression for other reasons and didn't do so well either, so I received an academic probation letter. I can try to appeal it, but my school requires a document of some sort for proof, and since I never sought help, I don't have any. I mean that IS the reason why I didn't do well, because I didn't seek help.

Have I just ruined my chance of getting accepted?

I was on academic probation my first semester in college due to a 1.8 GPA (I'm not ashamed of talking about that anymore). It was simply due to partying too much and enjoying my new-found independence. That was years ago, and since that semester I made efforts to do better. I ended up aceing my prereqs and being accepted years later into two competitive accelerated BSN programs, one of which I graduated with honors. I know time helped heal the wounds of my academic probation, but in your case you might want to speak to an academic counselor to see how this is best addressed in your admission applications. But as you can see, probation does not end your dream of being a nurse. It did not end mine.
