Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi. I was unable to find a discussion thread for applicants for USM's ABSN class of 2020. Anyone else out there patiently waiting to hear back from USM?

Has anyone checked Maine Street lately?? Check the student center portal! I don't know if it's official or not, but my application status last week was a green circle and today it changed to a green check mark - Accepted!! Keeping my fingers crossed that it's not a fluke. Good luck everybody!!

Ashley, would you mind sharing your stats?( prerequisites completed, any optional prereqs? GPA, prereq grades?) I would like to apply for next year and trying to gauge myself. Thank you!

Hi everyone! I was admitted as well! I'm glad I found this thread in order to connect. My fingers are crossed for everyone still waiting for a checkmark. Best of luck!

Hi! Of course I can share my info, I know how stressful this process is.

My undergrad Cumulative GPA was a 3.56.

For the pre reqs I had all completed pre reqs done as well as well as the supporting courses. I am not 100% of the GPA of that averaged but I know I had a B in A & P I and C in A & P II. Stats I had an A, Microbio a B and any Psych courses an A.

I have a decent amount of research experience from my undergrad too which I think strengthened my applications.

I got accepted into USM as well as Edinboro University in PA. I would check their program as well. I also got waitlisted at a school in Charlotte.

The whole process can be scary and kind of frustrating, there were points I didn't think I'd get in anywhere but I applied to 6 schools together and got 2 acceptances and 1 waitlist which I am still waiting to hear from. Keep your head up, let me know if you have any other questions ?

Oh, thank you so much for the info! I am trying to see what’s important to them: more optional classes taken or grades for the courses required? What convinces them in the essay to pick you over another. I won’t have all of the optional courses, just 1 optional, and Microbiology will be in process in the Fall, but I will still apply. I ve been looking for great ABSN programs with reasonable cost/quality outside of Maine as well. Thank you for suggesting a couple, I will check them out!

Prior degree: BS in radiologic technology (2011)

8 years working for a laboratory company

Overall GPA: 3.82

Prereqs:

  • A&P I: B (In 2007)
  • A&P II: B (In 2008)
  • Statistics: A
  • Micro: A
  • Developmental psych: A

Also, I'm taking human nutrition right now, which will transfer over (but it's not a prereq)

I just moved up to Maine from Florida in preparation for this semester to start in May! It's definitely going to be an adventure! Good luck to you ?

Thabk you, Ashley! Oh, so you can take some classes before the accelerated program and they can transfer over into the program? I thought that program is like 1 unit of 15 months and nothing can be transferred into it!

Various work experiences in geriatrics, two years as a CNA at an assisted living, a year in health insurance, activities assistant in memory care, volunteer experience as LTC ombudsman,

Degrees:

Bachelors in Psych and Public Health, 3.9; Master of Public Health, 3.82

Prereqs:

  • Stats: A
  • A&P I: B+
  • A&P II: A-
  • Microbio: A-
  • Chem: A, A in lab (I think I just put intro chem on my app)
  • Dev Psych: A

I decided not to attend the program, so hopefully this opened a slot on the waitlist! Good luck to everyone who does the program!

Don’t quote me on this but I think the nutrition course is the only exception to this rule. Everything else has to be completed during the program.

Hey for anyone waitlisted, I gave up my spot for a different program so that's at least one spot and I think they will be pulling next week. Hope some of y'all get in! ?
