ABSN Duke Fall 2010

Published

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

SUPER IMPORTANT INTERVIEW INFO:

The info she gave me was only partially correct. The interviewers are not allowed to see your file, your Metrics, your recommendation letters, etc, but THEY WILL HAVE READ YOUR PERSONAL STATEMENT. They ask six preset questions and in my case, did not bring up anything from my personal statement (and there was plenty to bring up). Not a single comment. As a matter of fact, they specifically worked around it. Other than that, their questions are the ones you might expect, but very structured and 2-3 parts to each one.

My interview was extremely formal. I thought the first half went terribly and the second half went very well. I'm nauseous and I really want some wine.

kebunt~

I'm sure you did just fine. Congrats on having that hurdle behind you. Thanks for the information & please have a big glass of wine for all of us.

Deep breath! Everyone always feels like their interview went horribly or that they could've done better, but have confidence in the fact that you were selected to interview. I'm sure it went better than you think. Now drink up girl!

So it sounds like we will all get the same preset questions?

I'm so nervous/excited! Be happy you're done, kebunt :)

There is definitely a working list of questions. I just don't know if the list is 6 questions long, or if they get to pick 6 questions from a longer list...

I can't remember who is interviewing this week, but good luck to you all!

Have you all taken Human Growth & Development and Nutrition?

MLD- Yes, I took Developmental Psych online last Spring and I did Nutrition over the summer (4 nights/week after work, yuck!). They were both really interesting actually! Definitely easier than the science prereqs. Developmental Psych had a lot more assignments than I was expecting, though. It was fairly time intensive.

I took both as well.

I only took "Human Growth and Development." But I did work for a while as an editor for a health company... so I've spent a lot of non-credit time with Nutrition.

I have taken neither Human Growth and Development nor Nutrition...I just couldn't stand to wait any longer to apply with all of the other prereqs that I had to take!

I'm hoping for those of us who have taken the extra classes if factors into our prereq GPA. My undergrad GPA is on the lower side so I'm going to need all the help I can get.

Also, I was sitting here thinking cause I have nothing better to do with my life. The program is 77 people. About 140 of us got interviews. It appears from past threads that about 20-30 people from the waitlist get into the school. That means only about 30/140 people will be denied admittance to the program, right? I'll take that!

Is it 77 or just plain 70?

I know this sounds dramatic but, I don't know if I could stomach the agony of the wait list.
