ABSN Duke Fall 2010

U.S.A. North Carolina

Published

Hi All!

I have decided to take the plunge and leave my career as a mental health therapist to gain a BSN in Nursing and hopefully move straight into MSN program. Is anyone else applying to Duke in the Fall??:yeah:

What number were you told? Maybe we can ask them for the exact number of applicants once the deadline has passed. I don't really want to be concerned with numbers since there's nothing we can do about it, but it's hard not to think about it.

Hi Katie! The last thing I want is for you or anyone else to stress over numbers I'm putting out there, especially when I can't promise they're accurate. And like you said, there's nothing we can do about it anyhow! I was under the impression that there are generally 300+ applicants, but since our numbers are so far off, I am truly happy to go with the numbers you were given. Honestly, I am a huge ball of stress right now racing the deadline, so I can't even worry about the numbers or my head might pop off. Who knows, maybe they just interview everyone that interests them, regardless of numbers? Plus, with the crazy economy, this years numbers might be very different than they have been in the past. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more about it:)

Besides, if you got the interview at Case, you obviously have something to offer and you'll get the interview at Duke too! I remember looking at their program, and I ultimately decided not to apply, so chances are I thought my stats weren't competitive. I have friends and family throughout PA (not sure where in PA you are) and OH, including Cleveland. I have some friends that went to Case, one in med school and one in law school, and they LOVED it, so I am little jealous that it wasn't for me.

Also, I don't know if you ever got answers to your questions about interview groups/days, but I spoke with admissions again today, and we talked a little about Duke Days. I'm sure there are others on this board that know more about it than I do, but from what I understand they arrange interviews on 3 different Fridays, and it's an all day event that included current and previous students, financial aid, Q&A, other applicants, etc.

Hang in there. We'll all get together at Duke Days soon enough!

Maybe if you're still interested in Case, I can PM you when I'm able, because you might have a better chance than you think.

Sounds great Katie, thanks!

I think for fall there are only 50 spots...

Straight from the anoymous horse's mouth earlier this year:

"We typically receive around 200 and we currently have 77 slots for admission. We are going to likely decrease to 56 slots in the spring. The fall classes are larger. "

Hopefully that means 56 slots for the Spring class and 77 for the Fall... NOT- 77 spots all total being reduced to 56. That seems tiny

And seriously- we probably all have the same personality type... analyzing and over analyzing the percentages. :) funny. ;)

Anyone from Ohio?

I'm chiming in late, but I'm also anxiously awaiting a response from Duke for Fall 2010! My app was submitted back in September. I live about 1/2 an hour from Duke and am crossing my fingers to be invited to Duke Days. I have a call in to the admissions office with some questions, so if I'm able to get any new info, I'll be sure to post it here. Best of luck to you all!

Hi Carolina!

All the way back in September, eh? Wow- you've been waiting a while now. :)

Good Luck & welcome to the thread!:yeah:

Hey Ladies and welcome Carolina!

So we think they are about 77 slots for 200 people. That is pretty promising for we Blue Devil hopefuls! I am stillllll waiting on one letter. I am about to go crazy, I have been promised that it will be complete tonight...I'll be the girl turining blue in the corner from holding my breath if anyone needs me:eek:

I hope everyone here makes it to Duke Days. I am so ready just to get accepted and get this underway!

Carolina, where are you from? I live in Asheville not too far down the road.

Well hope everyone is have a great day and is getting ready to eat lots of turkey!

I'm in Apex-originally from Greenville, NC and I LOVE Asheville!

Asheville is a great and funky little town! I've lived here about 5 years and am originally from Mississippi.

Hey guys! I wonder how soon after Dec. 1st we'll hear about interviews. I'm really anxious to get this process going. Has anyone applied and been accepted/waitlisted to any other schools, or have an interview coming up?
