About to take 3rd exam but....I'm not ready!

Published

Hey everyone. I'm about to take NCLEX-RN for the third time but I know that I'm just not ready. My exam is scheduled for this Wed, 8/19. My ATT expires on the 24th. If I cancel this exam, does it count as taking my 3rd exam and failing it? This could mean that I would be required to take 30 some hours of reviews. I really don't want to take another review course. I would rather feel prepared for the 3rd exam and then pass it.

So basically, my questions is, can I cancel my upcoming exam (without it being counted as a failure), reregister, and schedule a new date?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Sorry if I don't make much sense.

All I know is that if you cancel it, you don't get your money back. You can postpone it to the latest date (24th?) without losing your money. I would recommend doing that...

All in all, trust your gut. If you're not ready, you're not ready. But when do any of us feel truly READY to take the NCLEX examination. We can't know everything...

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for replying waterpaint!

I don't really mind paying another $200 to reregister. The thing is though, all the dates have been booked for the whole month of August. So postponing isn't even an option.

I feel your pain. I'm currently studying for my 2nd exam! The first time, I didn't feel ready but everyone told me not to post-pone it. I ended up taking it and failing with 169 questions.

I would trust your gut and if you don't mind paying another $200, then really sit down and think about whether you feel ready or not. If you've been studying hardcore for over a month doing questions every day...maybe it's time to take it?? Only you can truly know what's best.

It's a bummer that the dates are all booked. That was my case as well. I looked at the calendar and saw no dates were available until a month later...so I pushed myself to take it that first time.

My gut feeling is that I should postpone. I'm just not sure that if I do cancel the exam, that it would or would not count as my 3rd failure? Which would end up with me taking remediation courses. Do you have any idea about this?

I have to confess that I have been slacking a bit. It's just that every time I think about the exam, it feels like I'm about to have a panic attack. It just makes it worse that it's sort of a do or die situation for me.

I don't think it would count as a 3rd failure but I would call pearson vue or your board of nursing just to make sure. God forbid I tell you that it wont count but it ends up being that it does.

I feel you on the panic part. I'm a horrible test taker and the thought of taking it a second time really stresses me out. But we have to keep trucking on!! Keep doing questions onebizeebee!! It's the only way we'll succeed. And good luck!! I hope it doesn't count!!

I'm going to call them first thing Monday. Thanks a lot for your input. I wish you the best of luck on your exam!

i agree. not testing does not count as a failure. you merely forfeit your money--no refunds.

if your gut feeling is that you are not ready. don't take the chance!! :( if you can afford to pay the $200+ dollars again, do so. while upcoming dates at pearsonvue testing centers may be full/booked. look at this as a "positive." it will allow you more time to study. :typing

good luck!
