About to take up BSN in the philippines

Published

hello, i just have a question that really bothers me. i am an immigrant here in the US and i want to study nursing in the philippines as a 2nd courser, my question is, IF I'M AN IMMIGRANT AND AFTER SAY 2 YEARS FINISHED MY BSN, do i need to take local board, ielts/tse, toefl or cgfns?

can i take the nclex directly without taking any of the tests i've mentioned?

does anybody know someone who has the same situation with me?

Hello doalds. Welcome to allnurses.com. Moved your post in a thread of it's own in the Int'l forum where it is more appropriate.

Your case is not unique and has been answered countless times and you only have to read the diff. threads here and in the Phil. forum.

I recommend reading first the diff. stickies that can be found in the Int'l and the Phil. forum, esp. Suzanne's 'Primer' Sticky in the Intl.

But to answer your query.. NO you do not have to take and pass the local boards and just go directly and apply to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam, however, each State Board of Nursing or Board of Registered has their own requirements for foreign-educated nurses. You should go to their website to find out what their req'ts are. You will still be considered a foreign-educated nurse and therefore must comply the requirements for their policies re: foreign -educated nurses. Being an immigrant, you are, however, exempted from obtaining a Visa Screen Certification already.

What State do you plan to work? Some State BON/BRN require you go through CGFNS Certification before they allow you to be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam and if your State requires this then you will have to be a local boards passer first. However, majority if States do not require a CGFNS Certification anymore and either require the CGFNS Credential Evaluation Service (CES) or just give your transcripts of records directly to them for evaluation. So, it depends really on which State you are going to work.

If you will take time to do more readings in the Int'l forum you will know w/c States do not require CGFNS Certificate (local board passer needed), w/c ones just require CES, and w/c ones does their own evaluation.

thanks a lot lawrence, i'm planning to work later on in nj or ny. i will read more. merry christmas to everyone!

NJ needs CGFNS' CES while NY needs the CVS for NY service (CGFNS also).

It is up to you already on w/c State to choose.

Either way, they do not need the local boards.
