I am applying both for the BSN and accelerated master's program. I have a degree in music already. This is the first time I have written a real resume and i'm not sure if it is ok or not. It is due in September, so I have time, but want to get as much as possible completed. Thank you in advance. The application instructions said 1 page, outlining the topics sectioned in bold below. I added the degree section. Was not sure at all what to put under leadership so I wrote traits I feel I possess.
Also, it did not say what font to use for resume. Should I use the same one as specified for the essay to be on the safe side. Also, how would you suggest I make it have visual appeal without going over the top? It looks pretty boring!

Realistically when you do the resume you have categories:
Work experience
volunteer work/experience
activies (sports groups, clubs, etc)
awards and achievements
education
Everything must have a date on it, some schools or groups factually check resumes (not all, just a few may call a reference or place of employment to confirm it). Your Cumulative GPA does not need to be placed on the resume unless its good (3.5 or better). Health care interest is something that isnt necessary since they assume you have interest in healthcare.
Not to be mean, but you really should have seen your career center at your last college, they could have helped you better than most people could.
Thank you for your reply. However, every section I elaborated on was specifically asked for on the application directions. Would it still be wise omit sections they want?
really would be more helpful to see exactly what they are looking for then. If this were a real resume as in you were applying for a job, more than likely the place would discard your application because its all over the place and not specific. That is if they asked for your resume or CV. If they want their own version then follow what they say. Just you really don't list your traits for leadership. you list specific leadership activities, such as manager of 3 workers/coworkers, or trained 3 workers at same time, or president of student government. If you don't have any direct leadership positions, then some at job such as teaching clients. The tiger study can be removed because they will want an explaination of it and its not really something they will look at.
Okay. Thanks. This is for entrance into the school of nursing, though. Not for a nursing job. I am still doing pre reqs.
if they asked for a resume its because they want to see how professional you are. Not because they figure your getting a job. my old college asked for resumes and the admissions recruiter said they run through it in 30 seconds and it was the make or break point for many students. in 30 seconds if you dont catch their attention, they will find someone whose resume does.
