I fully anticipated this development after Abington merged with Jeff as Abington Hospital requiring BSN degree within 5 ears of hire recently.

Jefferson opening 2nd campus for nursing students

Thomas Jefferson University and Health System will close the diploma program at Abington Memorial Hospital's Dixon School of Nursing after the current students finish their studies and then open a second bachelor of science in nursing there.

Jefferson said the decision to transition the diploma program in Willow Grove to a bachelor's program, which is pending approval from the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing, came as part of the integration process that began after Abington and Jefferson agreed to merge in late January.

Starting in fall 2017 after the graduation of Dixon's current evening/weekend class, Willow Grove will be a second campus for Jefferson's bachelor's in nursing program, joining the Center City location...

This is breaking my heart! They were the only evening/weekend program in the area. I was hoping to go to Dixon. Such a bummer :-/

I think it is great that the Jefferson name and all that it brings to the table academically will be available to those in the 'burbs. I wonder, will the Jefferson price tag along too?

It is great cause we as nursing students are falling under the pressure of having to get our BSN's. Once upon a time having a diploma was considered great and considered more core intensive but nowadays everybody wants nurses with BSN's. This also creates better space for Jefferson and their waiting list people (I speculate). It is also good for people who live around the Northwest section of the city who don't have to drab about taking transit or drive to center city Philly and endure that traffic.
