AASN vs LPN can somebody shed some light?

I will be attending school for nursing in the fall. One of the programs I have been accepted to offers an AASN. How does this differ from an LPN program? Which program is superior? What seperates an AASN from a standard LPN program??

AASN is an Assoc in Applied Science in Nursing and would lead to an RN degree.

RN would give you more mobility (especially in acute care environments) and more pay (5-7/hr more), but is twice as long as the LVN/LPN program (not including the pre-reqs for AASN, which are ANOTHER 1.5 yrs.)

I graduated from an AASN program in May 2005. I am an RN. Our program offered an LPN class taken after the first year that would lead to an LPN should a student decide he or she did not want to continue through the second year to be eligible for the RN.

RN's make way more money and have more opportunities for various types of jobs.

Try doing a search on the web to see what roles the LVN and the RN play in healthcare. I think they are quite similar really. Same page should also tell you what the education is for each.

In one state (I thought it might be North Dakota), I know that LPN is an associate degree and RN requires a BSN. Interesting - don't know how they have any nurses there.
