AANP 2016

Published

I just passed AANP boards today, I am officially a FNP-C!!!! I promised myself that when I did that I would "pay it forward" and post a thread (I came to this site MANY times to see what others were posting/asking about boards).

I will be honest and admit that this was my second time taking AANP boards (never attempted ANCC). I failed the first time about a month ago, and was ABSOLUTELY devastated! I couldn't understand how this happened! I had previously took the live Fitzgerald class, plus ordered her practice book from Amazon, and bought a bundle package from APEA. While I was absolutely heartbroken, I was happy to know that I wasn't that far off from passing (I got a 474).

So, I was determined to reevaluate how I studied and retest in one month. What I believe really made the difference was Leik's book! I don't want to sound like a sales representative, but her exam tips and straight-to-the-point facts were right on! I even saw a couple of the practice questions on the exam!

In addition, I also used APEA again (bought another monthly bundle) and bought quite a few practice exams (2 from APEA, both the family and adult-gero practice exam from AANP), and 1 practice exam from Barkley. While this did become pricey, it paid off when I saw "PASSED" on the screen!

Words of advice...study, study, study your weak areas. When taking these practice exams, really look at what areas you are low in. I hope that this long thread helps someone who is sitting for boards soon. Good luck to everyone reading this!

@CaNP

When did you take the exam? I am doing the online Fitzgerald now and I feel like it's very helpful. How long did you wait to take the exam after you finished the online Fitzgerald? Did you use any other books/resources?

Thanks for your post... I failed today and I am completely devastated...

I failed this past week too!!!! I'm so devastated! I attended Holier's live review course, her question and answer book and Leiks book. I honestly did not know half of the questions. It was not what I was expecting. The questions were worded so tricky. Any advice would be helpful. Congrats to those who have passed and those of us who have not, we have to keep pounding the pavement.

Hang in there... I'm in the same boat I got my results and I was about 6 questions away from passing. I believe the Hollier review I took a few weeks ago helped me pull what I learned from the Fitzgerald review together. However, I don't feel the Hollier review alone would have been enough to pass boards. Looking to retest soon. I'm remaining optimistic. Best of luck!

Thank you CaliRNfutureAGNP! Since I just failed on Saturday, I have not received my test scores. I can honestly say, those questions were way out in left field for me. How long did it take for you to receive your results? Also did, you do all of the CEs on the AANP website? I'm finding out that I have to do a ton of these to get 15 CE, but it's worth it.

It received my results within 10 days of testing... Since I was so devastated about failing I just took another review... Which is when I took the Hollier review a few weeks ago to get my CEs.

Good to know. Keep me posted on your progress and I will do the same. I'm praying we will both get through this.

Did you ever get a response to this question? I am wondering the same thing!

Hi CLB_81,

Did you ever pass the AANP exam? I opted not to take this exam and eventually took the ANCC Family exam and passed. I have a friend who's struggling to pass the AANP-Family exam. Do you have a study plan?

I took AANP last year and passed!

Congratulations!!!! I am so happy to be done with boards.
