A very rough draft

Published

I am applying to an FNP program and would like some input on the personal statement I have written. i have been struggling.

It should be 2 pages or less and answer the following questions:

1. Provide a statement describing how your work experiences and professional interests have prepared you to be successful in the graduate program to which you have applied (i.e.: the specialty track such as FNP, Adult CNS, HSM)

2. Discuss how completing the graduate program you have selected (i.e.: the specialty track such as FNP, Adult CNS, HSM) will help you meet your professional goals.

3. If you are applying to a Nurse Practitioner program, describe how you see yourself working specifically in the advanced practice Nurse Practitioner role.

The babies that arrive through the doors of a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit are among the most complicated patients. As a qualified nurse on the care team I am in charge of planning and providing daily care. I assess each infant individually, utilizing critical thinking skills, in order to treat each infant's specific needs. I must also comfort and educate families who are trying to adjust to seeing their babies in such a helpless state. These critical nursing skills along with observational experiences have shaped my professional goals.

I observe the impact of lack of quality healthcare on the family as a whole. My goal is to become a competent family nurse practitioner focused on health promotion and providing high quality care to families. Loyola's Family Nurse Practitioner program will help me achieve my goals by providing me with the ability to effectively collect data, form a diagnosis and provide holistic treatment.

I look forward to providing quality care with an emphasis on wellness and prevention. I am specifically interested in weight loss and management. I hope to work closely with patients meet their personal weight loss goals. I envision starting my own clinic that promotes health and wellness in the most natural ways possible.

Thanks for the input!

Hello!

I think you have some great details. Do you have a personal experience that you can add that helped you decide to pursue NP? It would be great to add that. Also, you may want to rephrase "I observe the impact of lack of quality healthcare on the family as a whole" to make it a bit more clear. Other than that I think it sounds great!
