A and P over 7 weeks during summer

Is it too intense? Any tips? I'm scared..... Lol. Specifically, A and P 1 .....

Basically, eat, drink, and sleep A&P for 8 weeks straight. How do you memorize? Anything besides flash cards? It is mainly powerpoint slides that we were tested on. I wish I was better at memorization.

SopranoKris, I second your suggestion to the OP about the anatomy coloring books...such a great tool that I would recommend to anyone taking A&P!!!

Here's a great website where you can take A&P quizzes, play games, etc. VERY helpful!!!

Web Anatomy: Self Tests

The class is 10 and a half hours a week about. 6 and a half hours of lecture per week and 4 hours of lab. This is over 7 weeks. How much should you study? I would guess every minute/second of the 7 weeks? It almost feels overwhelming. Is it more beneficial to take the 15 week version because this will go by too fast and you will not retain as much info? I never had A&P before in my life, but I had General Biology back in 2008 but it's not really fresh in my head. I only received a 3.4 in General Biology, but I had the top grades in the class. There was only like two or three people with better grades. The teacher was hard.

However, in Microbiology I got a 4.0 and Nutrition a 4.0 too with the same teacher that is teaching this A&P class. He was not easy but told you what was in the class.

Whenever I take a new class, I plan on studying the same amount of time that I spend in the class/lab each week. Then I either cut back on the hours (if it's too much) or add to it (if it's really intense or difficult to retain). So, plan on studying at least 10 hours a week and then add/remove time as you see fit.

It's really up to you...only you can be the judge of how much info you're retaining :)

Do you know what text you're using yet? The book we had to buy was extremely expensive for the hard-back version. I was able to find the same edition, but in a format where I can put the pages in a 3-ring binder and saved almost $100 on the cost of the book. The lab manual came with the text, but it's a paperback book.

I like being able to get a jump start on my classes and read ahead so I have questions prepared in advance. Yes...I'm Hermione Granger when it comes to school...LOL :D

My school offers A&P I and A&P II in one semester - eight weeks of each. In class 10/hours week. It was a lot but I managed to get As in both. I was also taking 6 other units of "filler" classes, not working but two little kids at home. It was manageable, you just need to stay on top of the reading/review on a daily basis. I think I actually liked it better than an full 16weeks because the material stays fresh all the way through A&P II. I also had been out of school for 10+ years!

Yes, I know which text.... do you have an idea where to buy certain texts for a discount? .......

Do you think it is a better idea to take the 15 week Anatomy & Physiology 1 because I hear it is really hard to retain the info and it might be better as a longer class? I want to be sure.

Also, do you have an opinion on if an ASN or BSN is better? I know it is the same pay but some people tell you to push for a BSN since you will get better employment possibilities.

Generally, there is a test every week. I am taking Chem in the summer and working full time.

Two tests a week, right? Since there is lab test and lecture test, oh boy....... lol. I'm on the edge of dropping it. I don't know. I tried taking A & P twice and dropped it because I wasn't sure about nursing. I'm also nervous on taking any tests/quizzes because I haven't been in school in 3 years. I guess I just want an A, I'm nervous that I might end up getting a C on a test. I'm too much of a perfectionist. There is also a FOUR YEAR WAIT LIST at the school I'm taking it at so I just figure oh drop it because I'll never get into the program. I also have to take TEAS test which is nerve wrecking too because I forgot so much basic info since last being in school.

Tests make me so nervous, don't you just hate when you studied a term over and over again then you forget it as soon as the test is put in front of you? :( Then, you try to reach for your notes and know exactly what page it was on but it is too late.

You can check sites like Amazon.com or Chegg.com. There are sites that let you rent textbooks for a fraction of the cost of a new or used book. Do some research...Google is your best friend!

As far as waiting until its a 15 week vs. 7 week course...only you can decide what you can or cannot handle. If you need a slower pace to retain information, you might want to wait until fall. I personally like the shorter semester and quicker pace of summer classes. Just about the time I've had enough with the class, it's over. Whereas the 16 week classes feel like they drag on & on. YMMV :)

ASN & BSN both lead to the same thing: eligibility to take the NCLEX to get your RN. In some areas, hospitals won't hire you unless you have the BSN. It varies greatly by region, so you should check the job listings for nurses at the institutions you're hoping to work for in the future to see what their requirements are. When I went to the pre-nursing seminar, they were strongly adivising that we all seek out the BSN, due to hiring practices in the area. I have seen jobs that don't require the BSN, but there are certainly more opportunities with the BSN.

I started to do the same thing, but then chickened out! LOL! I would have had it over 8 weeks... I have a 3 year old so it's hard enough, so I'm just doing my psych class over the summer online. lol

I always find these posts a little funny. If it was too intense, no one would pass the course and the school wouldn't offer it in that format.

Anything is doable if you are willing to put in the effort and work on it. Yes it will probably be hard and intense, but it won't be "too intense." You just go to class, pay attention, do the work, and study the material.

Personally I think taking summer courses in a few weeks is easier than an entire semester. There's less time to be distracted and to forget the information between lectures and tests. Imagine learning Spanish by being exposed to the language for several hours a day for seven weeks, or learning Spanish by speaking it for three hours per week for three months. Which do you think would be more effective?

I feel like I'm going to do the same thing. I'm not sure. :( I wasn't even signed up until like a day ago because I wasn't sure about taking summer class. I have no children and no job right now, but I'm still terrified. I worked last year and it just didn't feel right. I just treasure my free time so much. I love cooking, listening to music, watching tv, plus I surf the net endlessly it seems like. I want to make something of myself though. I love nutrition too, so I thought about going for all different careers including Dietitian, Dental Hygienist, and Nursing. I'm still not sure if nursing is the right place for me. Many told me to become a model because I'm very tall and thin, but that is easier said than done.

I'm 23 and still don't know what I want with my life. :( If I don't do anything, I feel like my life has no meaning. I dropped A&P 1 when I attended a week of it before because I wasn't sure if I picked the right career. I'm also scared of the work load and I haven't been to school in 3 years, so I want it to be perfect but the work felt like it was coming quicker than I remembered it coming. I was mainly considering Registered Dietitian but keep changing my mind to nursing, lol. Nursing is better salary and there are so many directions to go if you are not happy. Working in labor & delivery or NICU appeals to me most.
