A and P Drama

i often wonder how am i going to make it in the nursing school i have so much trouble in anatomy and physiology that i am doubting myself. i keep pushing because this is my dream but i need to find some kind of way to study that will help me retain information better. if i can not pass biology how am i going to pass the ati critical thinking exam..:crying2:

It may be time consuming, but I record all my lectures, type out my notes, use flashcards, anatomy coloring books, I take digital photos of the anatomy models in class, answer the questions at the end of the chapter, etc. Also, if my teacher doesn't clarify something in a way I understand, I use good ole' Google to help me find the topic that I am not understanding. Somethings just have to be explained in a different way for you to get it.

Memorization is easy...all you have to do is repeat, repeat, and repeat some more until you get it. "Practice makes perfect." Try not to stress or get overwhelmed because that will make it harder to retain information. And don't doubt yourself because everyone has the ability to learn. And you're no exception!

Don't beat yourself up. A&P can be a hard class. There is a lot of information to learn and it takes a lot of time to learn it. There is a lot of good information on this site that can help you and even more on the internet. Sites like youtube have some pretty good animations and lectures that can be helpful. I'm a visual learner so the more pictures, diagrams and video I can find the better off I am. Don't give up, it can be done. Good luck!

Yeah, I agree with both responses to your question. I record every lecture, use an online practice site (animations, quizes, match games, etc.), and read the book. I habe been known to retype my notes, make falscards, and use youtube for videos. As stated A&P is a good deal of information and is like another language. After you start feeling comfortable with the information try and explain it to someone else.

I always try and teach my wife and mother inlaw. You can do it in a way that doesn't seem so "teachie." Like, "It is so cool how much goes into making a muscle contract. First, there is a signal from the primary motor cortex. Next, there is a signal for Na+ channels to open because the cell at a resting state is polarized..." You are training yourself as you share the info.

Good Luck!!!:)

Don't be so hard on yourself. If you look around on this site and possibly look around on google you can find things that can help you. Do you know how you learn? Are you a hands on person or a person who can read something and make since of it. Do what works for you. If something isn't working try something else. That's the biggest thing I've learned. I'm a very visual/hand on person. I have a photographic memory right before the test (like if I know some questions that will be on the test I will "photograph" them right before the test.) Otherwise I have to be hands on and figure out a way to remember it.

Someone mentioned memorization. That's great to prepare for a test but all of the biologies go hand in hand, you'll need to KNOW the information not just have it memorized. My instructor put everything into scenarios...it's not a definition test.

A lot of people have trouble with these classes. It's not just you. You're not alone. There are some forums on here where people discuss there problems. If you come across them maybe they'll have some good tips.

Good luck. Try not to stress. I know it's easier said than done. I cause myself anxiety if I stress so much and it makes things 10 x's more overwhelming than it should be.

GREAT advice from the responders! Overstudy, really. Get with some classmates for a study group, if you can. I haven't been able to make that work for me, but some of my classmates swear by it. Remind yourself of how smart you are to have even made it into the class (the prereq's) AND what a wonderful brain you have! Good luck! :)

Try not to worry too much! The stress alone will make you crazy! It is supposed to be hard, but over time is will get easier I promise! Don't give up
