Hi everyone:
I'm pushing 60 and have begun my pre-reqs for ADN at Navarro College. I have 107 hours but none in the prescribed courses. This semester, I'm takiing A&P (whew), speech, microcomputer and art appreciation. I've already completed the first of the Hep B shots, the TB test and will do the other stuff Navarro requires before next semester. There are only 28 slots available for the ADN degree because of a teacher shortage and one must have "points" in order to be accepted. The higher the grade, the higher the points. 4 points for an A, etc. I'm wondering whether to do a CNA program in order to get even more points. Anyone?

Hello
Taking the CNA course wont hurt you. I probably would if it is going to help my chances to get accepted to a program. Good luck to you

I would complete all of the required prerequisites before enrolling in a CNA program. However, the CNA courses might help. After all, the more the merrier. Good luck to you. :wink2:

Most programs will not accept an applicant unless they have wrapped up their prereqs. Also, the "points" are based on the prereq grades, not grades from irrelavent courses. For example, if you have an "A" in Auto Mechanics and it's not a required prereq, it won't count toward your GPA or "points". Now, this has been my experience; I don't know what every school does. Its always a good idea to meet/talk with someone in the particular program you're interested in.
