A female in distress!

Hello all! I just wanted to hear any experiences, stories or helpful information you have for a concern I have. I am in my senior year of college graduating with a major in Psych. I started off as a nursing major but did not do so well in the classes. I am interested in going back to nursing because I am working as a CNA and really love the work. I have been getting A's. I am looking to take some of my prerequisites over again to receive a better grade. I wanted to apply to some accelerated BSN programs or even BSN programs. My main concern is: will programs look at my past unsatisfactory grades and hold it against me? Does anyone have past experiences or knowledge of this situation? Do you think I have a second chance?:wink2: Any help would be lovely!

Your best bet is to check into the school/s you are interested in attending. It is not unusual for young students to have less than stellar records their first time around so just be up front with them and move forward. I would ask before spending the time and money to retake classes because as long as you got a C along with your bachelors it might not be necessary. Good luck!

I am currently in the process of researching/applying to entry-level MSN and BSN programs and they all say to get a C or better in the prerequisites. I had a 3.7 as an undergrad (English and Philosophy) and have A's in most of the prerequisites, except for a C in Anatomy and a B in Microbiology. I stil have to take Physiology and Chemistry and will do whatever I can to get A's in both classes...

I don't think that a B and a C among several A's will be a problem....at least I hope not! Most of these programs look at your grades for your Bachelor's degree, as well as letters of recommendation and volunteer experience in a hospital setting, so I would say go for it! I'm sure you have a second chance! And I'm sure that Psychology degree will come in handy in your future nursing career!
