The only things that are routine are the crash cart and Pyxis checks each day. Otherwise each day is different than the one before, which is why I love nursing.

everyday is a challenge and different for an rn,there's no routine, the only routine is the endorsement time and the checking of equipments!you're mealtime is even different each shift,if you're busy, you can't even eat unlike those working in the office where everything is planned...being an rn is way too different and way too challenging, but boy,i love being an rn! it's rewarding at the end of the day.:)

some things in my department are routine (such as setting up/checking equipment and the techniques for procedures), but other than that.......not much routine about it! an er isn't routine b/c you never know what may walk through the doors!
Thank you this information is very informative

Well this is why I love my ER job so much. I never know what will happen in a day, so I never really dread going to work!! But then there are those who like routine so they work in other places. Good luck!!!

Never expect to regularly work an 8 or 12 hour shift and go home. Expect to stay late and work double shifts because of call-ins.
