Hi everyone, I am an 18 year old college freshman in NY. I started off my freshman year terribly. I had no idea what I wanted to do and just randomly picked accounting. I unofficially withdrew from my English class because I didn't know any better (long story) which basically gave me a F, failed my accounting class and I passed my speech class
with a B+. So technically I have no GPA and I'm currently on academic probation. At the ending of my fall semester I decided that nursing IS what I wanted to do and no matter how hard it will be, I KNOW it will be rewarding at the end. However I intend on just taking my perquisites at my current community college and then transferring to a four year school by Fall 2018 for a bsn program. After tons of research I feel like it's impossible to get into a four year nursing program with my first semester grades. I am looking at SUNY Farmingdale, Medgar Evers, and SUNY Brockport What am i suppose to do? I feel so lost and losing hope.

One of the disservices our society tells our young 17-18 year olds is to go to college & pick the profession you "think" you'll want to do right out the gate. I struggled with this myself as a young person & now as a thirty something am starting over & going to nursing school.
It's worth going to community college for all your general studies & pre-reqs in my opinion. It's cheaper, gives you time to try things out & think about the direction you want to go. And if you change your mind, you aren't out exorbitant amounts of money. Good luck.

Straight out of high school I went to a business school at a top notch university thinking that that's what I wanted to do in life. Turns out I had no focus and no drive for the subject and I failed two semesters with a 1.5 GPA and was put on academic probation.
I transferred to my local community college, went there for about a year to bring my GPA there up. While taking online classes there I got my CNA and started working at a nursing home. Once I finished the classes I needed to apply for their program I did and lo and behold I got in.
I thought I had a 0% chance of getting into nursing school with the GPA I had accrued at my previous school AND I often questioned whether I was even smart enough to go for nursing. I started this Spring semester in the RN program at the community college and am glad that I reevaluated myself and decided to pursue it. If I had a chance, so do you. Good luck!

I was in a situation similar to yours. I went to a community college when I was still in high school. I only did it to get out of going to my regular high school classes. I was way too immature for college and ended up failing every class for two semesters. Ten years later I decided I wanted to go back to school for nursing but knew I couldn't do it with that kind of background. So I just ended up going to another community college instead. I never revealed my past transcripts and got into nursing school the first time I applied with a 3.6 GPA.
