A&P usage in other Nursing courses

Published

How much of the original A&P pre-requisites do you need to immediately recall for your actual nursing classes. I have heard mixed reviews that you are re-taught everything in the nursing core classes that you will need. I have also read that you need a mastery of A&P to be successful in some classes.

Any opinions?

In my program, they will do a quick Anatomy review as needed for what we're learning....but they expect you to mostly still know everything. They're not going to walk you back through A&P...that's why you're supposed to have already taken them. So if less than 100% of your A&P sticks, you'll be okay. But the more of it that you really commit to memory, the better you'll do in nursing school. Instead of having to spend time to review and relearn A&P, you'll have more time to study for the actual nursing part.

From what I've heard, it's only the big stuff that sticks because that's what you need. For example, you won't need to know all the little random foramina that you're asked to learn for lab. And like, I have a friend who's a senior who says she would probably fail any given anatomy exam if she were to take it now.
