A&P: Together or Seperate?

Should I take anatomy and physiology together as one class or as 2 separate classes?... or would there be a benefit of just taking all 3?

I know some schools requite them to be taken separately, and most schools dont really care, and i'm not really concerned about the difficulty of the material... I was just curious how everyone else took the classes and what they thought.

Here in the STL area, I believe most at the community college level anyway, take them together. They're offered as A&P I, A&P II.

I know that some of the nursing schools I've looked into require 8 credit hours of A&P which at my school takes 2 courses to get. If I were to take the A&P combined course it is only 6 credit hours so this wouldn't fill the requirement. Good luck!!

basically every school i have looked at (and would actually want to go to) will take Anatomy (4cr) and physiology(4cr) and/or A&P(5cr). They dont care if you take it together or separate, the requirements are simply to take some form of anatomy and some form of physiology....

I was just curious how people felt the classes should be taken regardless of requirements.

Anatomy is easier than A&P and Physiology is the most difficult of the 3.

I figure taking them together would be nice because you get form w/ function... but taking them separately you would probably get more information than taking them together... thats when I wondered if anyone had just taken all 3 of the classes.

I think im leaning towards taking them separately right now but just wondered what other peoples experiences w/ the class were.

Another consideration is that however you end up taking it, will it be transferable later on should you go on for a higher degree in nursing?

My daughter was going to go in to a program near here that offered some kind of combined A & P class "special" for their nursing program, but they were fair in pointing out that it would never be transferable to a degree higher than her ADN. She chose to take a pass on that.

Make sure you do your homework and determine that you won't have to redo the class(es) for whichever route you take!

I took A&P I and II at Webster and both took one semester each. Yes its difficult but honestly I didn't think either class was a killer.

I did not have the option of taking them separtely. It wasn't bad at all. Just study from your book and I also had a supplemental book called A and P made easy or something like that. I got an A in both 1 and 2 by using this book. Good luck.

I went to the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg MO, and we took 2 semesters of A&P. I graduated with a BSN.

You need to know the requirements of the nursing program you wish to attend, my school was very picky about not transferring classes from other schools, especially microbiology.

I liked learning the form and function at the same time, it made sense to me that way.

I took them as one and did just fine--for the two year degree in KC thats all you have to do---once i am an RN and continue towards my 4 year degree ill retake them as two classes...
