A&P 1

Published

I'm taking A&P this summer. I feel like a complete dummy in this class. It seems like I'm studying all the time, but when it comes down to the tests. I'm failing. What are some study tips. I try playing matching games online, index cards, rewriting notes, recording myself with terms. But I'm still not remembering the stuff. Do I have a learning disability or something? Never had this happen to me before. HELP!!!

I read the book and took notes as I was reading. Then I did the worksheet reviews we had for our class. Then I went over my lab stuff and drew pictures and illustrations of the different things...cells with labels, bones in the body, muscles. I would draw little pictures all the time. Then I made flash cards with terms when I really got stuck. I also typed the key words and a few key words in columns to remember them. My teacher suggested that to have to use for exams later.

I had the book online study guide and took all those quizes and tests and played those matching games. That helped a lot. I did the fill in the blank and matching. If you can pass those...then you can pass the class test.

Don't worry on memorizing the book. The best advice I got from this class was to "Make a Story". Take the material and make it your own, try to form a series of events in your head when it comes to how things work. try to get a big picture of what is going on and break it down in to steps and the plug all that into a story, in your own words, that you can remember.

If you're having problems memorizing bones, muscles etc, understand that that is just repetition and pure memorization.

Also, if you haven't already figure out what kind of learner you are and use that to your benefit

Here's a good learning style survey:

That's awesome!! Congrats!!

Ap1 was really interesting to me but for some reason I didn't make an A on my Prof. Test. I study her power points all the time and ended up with an 88. I'm not sure of your Prof. Uses the access code but we used masteringa&p.com and it did help me :) my first test were always my worst. You can do it!! Stay positive and goodluck :)

Thanks for all your advice!!! Got our exam grades today 67:( Still failed, but its a bit of an improvement. Glad the Prof. gives us a chance to retake.
