A&P and pre-reqs for accelerated program

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

im starting my first A&P class in January, and would like to add another pre-req so I can get those done quicker. At the end of the month I'm taking my states 3-week CNA course, and I have a 2 year old as well. I'm also working 3/4 time as an rsa at a ltc facility.

With really having no idea what to expect with A&P and the CNA course and exam, which pre-req would you think is reasonable to take on with my other obligations?

i have a BS degree in a field that's not nursing, so I want to get into an accelerated program. Most of the ones in my area require 6 pre-reqs, 3-4 of them being science. I've read around this forum and have seen people advise against 2 science classes in a semester.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Thank you!!

It depends on your strength as a student. I have a BS in psychology and I just took AP1, microbiology, nutrition, and human growth and development. I was concerned about taking micro and ap1 at the same time, it was a lot of studying but it was fine since I ended up with all A's. But I wasn't also working.

I am taking ap2, pathophysiology, and biochem this coming semester, and I am anticipating that it will be tons of work, but ok.

It just depends how much time you have to study and how much information you can absorb at the same time!

You sound like you have a heavy load coming up! I haven't been a student in 5.5 years. When I was doing my core bachelors classes I was taking 18 credits a semester plus working, but I was also single and working at an easy job part time. My life is so completely different that I can't even predict how it'll go!

I hear you! I have an MSed and have been a teacher for 8years. I hadn't taken a science in almost 15 years. I also have a 5 year old and a almost 3 year old and a husband. So its completely different from what I was doing before! I went into my classes last semester prepared to work hard, and I did, but it was entirely manageable. I think it will be doable to take 3 sciences at one time, but if not then I will drop pathophysiology. I also took over 18 credits during my first bachelors, and worked, but I didn't have kids or a husband, and I didn't know what to expect as a returning science student. Be prepared to work hard ( I studied for over 17 hours for one of my microbiology tests!) But I am also using the experience of taking many science classes at one time as preparation for tough classes during actual nursing school. I think taking 2 sciences at one time is doable.

I understand where you are coming from. This past semester was my first semester back in school after a long break post BA. I took AP 1 and human life span. I got an A in both while working both a full time and per diem job. It was hard, but like many posters say up here it's about managing your time. You know your limits, listen to those. Best of luck!
