Going back to school @ 26
I am 31 and I am starting nursing school in september! It is strange to get a second degree after being a teacher for over 8 years, be a in a class with 18 year olds...but i am soooo happy to be in school! I regret not starting earlier!

I've always wanted to be nurse, but...
Also, I am a non traditonal student (31 years old, former teacher, have 2 small kids at home) and although we want another baby, we will not have one until I am done with school. So I totally feel your angst about wanted to get on with school already!! However, since you dont know if you are in or not, I recommended working your hardest, try and stay calm!

I've always wanted to be nurse, but...
Look, some teachers just suck, irregardless of that fact, you can still do well, and it sounds like you ARE doing well. Its frusterating, but you will only have to be in that teachers class for 1 semester, and then it will be nothing but a memory. I had a horrible microbiology teacher who literally told us to download the powerpoints and read the book, and did not lecture at ALL, and gave very difficult tests. I hated HATED the class, but I managed to get an A anyways. Just take a deep breath, apply to schools that you want to go to, and then evaluate from there!

Best Path to RN for me?
This is the program I am considering attending for rn to bsn....which should take 1 year (its local and has a rn-fnp option) Nursing Major: RN to BSN — Fully Online, In-Class, or Hybrid You take one class at a time, and I think the classes last 6-8 weeks. Up to 12 credits for your bsn can also count towards your FNP. Its will be hard to turn down the ABSN acceptances, I am happy I got accepted to the local absn schools, but not sure it makes financial sense for me!

Thinking about leaving nursing school
I wouldnt continue nursing school if you do not want to be a nurse. However, think long and hard if you really want to get a degree in psychology. I have a degree in psychology and there is very little you can do with a BS in psychology. If you do switch to psychology have a clear plan about what you will your degree. It will likely be nessesary your you do get a phd or masters.

Best Path to RN for me?
If you already have an bachelors it should be only 1 year to complete the bsn after the adn. I'm still waiting to hear back from the local adn program, and i (again!) reconsidering wether it would be better to do the ADN instead of the absn, because of the loans, even if I go to the cheapest absn i still need living expenses loans, which is going to be alot of loans. SO at the moment I am thinking do the ADN (15 months, there is an accelerated one) do ADN-BSN...this should take 1 year if you already have a Bachelors, and then do the FNP (2-3) years. However, I have kids and a mortgage to consider. I am going to speak to a financial planner about this, but honestly, I believe that the less debt the better, so that in my situation it just makes sense to do ADn.

switch from medical school to nursing?
Do not leave medical school and do not have a child right now. I suggest you and your wife seek marriage counseling. WHile it may be cultural for her not to work (and Im not sure this is true because I have met Filipina women who are married with families and work full time), this is america, not the filipines. Perhaps take some living expense loans while you finish med school, if she absolutely will not work.

Best Path to RN for me?
I was going to do the adn but I just got accepted to the best and cheapest absn program. I'm going to do it because I will be working as a nurse the fastest, and 30,000 of debt is reasonable, while 60,000 of debt (like the other absn programs) isn't reasonable to me! Good luck to everyone!

Best Path to RN for me?
I was basically only considering ABSN until a month ago when I realized how much it was going to cost! I also plan on working part time during the adn and local hospitals will pay a portion of tuition, so it would be practically free to do the adn. It does seem much more fiscally responsible to do the adn!
