  1. I got my registration yesterday too! Very exciting! I signed up for CPR to get it out of the way. Should we make a ccac boyce facebook group?
  2. If you cant do full time then absn is not for you. Absn's are even more than full time
  3. Congratulations! I'll see you there!
  4. I just got my acceptance to CCAC boyce fast track! I'm very excited, and I hope to see some of you there!! good luck everyone!
  5. I haven't heard anything. And I spoke to the office today and they told me not to expect anything before end of april or early may
  6. I hope they aren't just starting to review the applications now! They said I would hear back at the begining of april! I want to know already!
  7. I am 31 and I am starting nursing school in september! It is strange to get a second degree after being a teacher for over 8 years, be a in a class with 18 year olds...but i am soooo happy to be in school! I regret not starting earlier!
  8. Also, I am a non traditonal student (31 years old, former teacher, have 2 small kids at home) and although we want another baby, we will not have one until I am done with school. So I totally feel your angst about wanted to get on with school already!! However, since you dont know if you are in or not, I recommended working your hardest, try and stay calm!
  9. Look, some teachers just suck, irregardless of that fact, you can still do well, and it sounds like you ARE doing well. Its frusterating, but you will only have to be in that teachers class for 1 semester, and then it will be nothing but a memory. I had a horrible microbiology teacher who literally told us to download the powerpoints and read the book, and did not lecture at ALL, and gave very difficult tests. I hated HATED the class, but I managed to get an A anyways. Just take a deep breath, apply to schools that you want to go to, and then evaluate from there!
  10. This is the program I am considering attending for rn to bsn....which should take 1 year (its local and has a rn-fnp option) Nursing Major: RN to BSN — Fully Online, In-Class, or Hybrid You take one class at a time, and I think the classes last 6-8 weeks. Up to 12 credits for your bsn can also count towards your FNP. Its will be hard to turn down the ABSN acceptances, I am happy I got accepted to the local absn schools, but not sure it makes financial sense for me!
  11. I wouldnt continue nursing school if you do not want to be a nurse. However, think long and hard if you really want to get a degree in psychology. I have a degree in psychology and there is very little you can do with a BS in psychology. If you do switch to psychology have a clear plan about what you will your degree. It will likely be nessesary your you do get a phd or masters.
  12. If you already have an bachelors it should be only 1 year to complete the bsn after the adn. I'm still waiting to hear back from the local adn program, and i (again!) reconsidering wether it would be better to do the ADN instead of the absn, because of the loans, even if I go to the cheapest absn i still need living expenses loans, which is going to be alot of loans. SO at the moment I am thinking do the ADN (15 months, there is an accelerated one) do ADN-BSN...this should take 1 year if you already have a Bachelors, and then do the FNP (2-3) years. However, I have kids and a mortgage to consider. I am going to speak to a financial planner about this, but honestly, I believe that the less debt the better, so that in my situation it just makes sense to do ADn.
  13. Do not leave medical school and do not have a child right now. I suggest you and your wife seek marriage counseling. WHile it may be cultural for her not to work (and Im not sure this is true because I have met Filipina women who are married with families and work full time), this is america, not the filipines. Perhaps take some living expense loans while you finish med school, if she absolutely will not work.
  14. I was going to do the adn but I just got accepted to the best and cheapest absn program. I'm going to do it because I will be working as a nurse the fastest, and 30,000 of debt is reasonable, while 60,000 of debt (like the other absn programs) isn't reasonable to me! Good luck to everyone!
  15. I was basically only considering ABSN until a month ago when I realized how much it was going to cost! I also plan on working part time during the adn and local hospitals will pay a portion of tuition, so it would be practically free to do the adn. It does seem much more fiscally responsible to do the adn!
  16. Wow, I could have written your post! I am also 31 with a bachelors(and masters) in another field. I am in the process of appplying to nursing school. I have been accepted at a local ABSN and I am waiting to hear back from 2 other ABSN programs. However, due to the price of the ABSN's I also applied to my community college's nursing program, and I am seriously considering doing and ADN and then doing an rn/msn program. I will likely save over 50,000. Yes it will take me longer....but I looked at a loan calculator for borrowing 50,000 for an ABSN and I would have to pay $600 a month for the next 10 years! Makes the community college look a lot more intersting than the ABSN! Also some schools allow you to get your MSN without a BSN (just an RN) as long as you have a bachelors degree in another field. This very reputable school does not require you to have a bsn if you already have a bachelors and an adn.Frontier Nursing University - Distance Education from the Birthplace of Nurse-Midwifery and Family Nursing in America I see you are in Pennsylvania. I'm in Pittsburgh, which schools do you want to apply to? I have applied to robert morris, duq, pitt, and ccac.
  17. Start taking medication for anxiety. its a whole new world!! Seriously, don't discount nursing as a career until you have adressed your mental health.
  18. Hm, I didn't get a confirmation letter, but the person in the advising office said that she got my application and my paperwork, and I didn't have to turn anything else in! My paperwork was in before march 1 so hopefully I will hear back soon! I know April/May isn't that far away, but its hard to wait! Good luck!
  19. I also want boyce fast track! I submitted my application about 2 weeks ago, but I just took the teas last week. I did pretty well on the teas, so fingers crossed! i hope we get to hear soon! how long does it usually take to hear back?
  20. So who applied to CCAC for Fall 2016? All of my documents are in! Fingers crossed!
  21. Yes, this is most likely what I will do. I can finish the adn for $5000, and then get bsn while working for 10-15,000.Which will be much cheaper than a $50,000 or more ABSN.
  22. I am applying to nursing schools in pittsburgh. I am applying to pitt, duq, rmu, ccac, and possibly shadyside nursing as well. It depends where I get accepted but ccac is by far the cheapest program. Pitt I believe is the overall best program. I believe west penn hospital also has an adn program.
  23. Yes I did it. (A's in both) but it was a ton of work. And micro was way more work than AP1 which i was not expecting! If you are organized and study a lot it is possible.
  24. Since you are already in nursing school, I would stick it out and then get an NP degree. I understand why you would like the medical model better (my father is a doctor, so I grew up with medicine not nursing) however, I have chosen to go to nursing school (for a variety of reasons). So i am going into nursing school knowing that I will want "more" than many of the people that I am in school with. Keep your eye on the prize. get your degree and go on to a higher nursing degree like nurse anesthetist, NP etc. Going to do prerequisites for PA now, and then applying for a PA degree will take time, may as well continue with nursing, and you will end up at your goal faster.
  25. I am starting nursing school this september and my kids will be 3 and 5. I know it will be tough, but we can do this!!
