A & P I and Dev. Psyc doable for single working mom?

Published

I am a single mom of two (husband is working out of state this year). I am thinking of taking A&P I and Developmental Psyc in the spring. I have been working on pre reqs one at a time and have an A in Nutrition, A in Gen Psyc. All the non science stuff I have from before.

I feel like I have gotten the hang of working, kids and studying but is A & P I so much of a study load that I should just take it on it's own? Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm taking both of those right now. A&P is condensed into one long night, and DP is online. I have a 13 mo old and I work part time. As soon as DD goes to bed, my books come out. I also study on my two days off when she's napping, and when I can on the weekends. I can't do any studying at all when she's awake. I'm sure that will change as she gets older. Although I think it can definitely be done, it won't be easy while you're alone with the kids.

ladybugsea,

Where are you taking Dev. Psyc online? Thanks for the info regarding how you divide up your study time. I am still deciding about whether or not I will try doing both. I really want to get an A in A&P. Well, I guess I really want an A in both. But if I can cut cross 2 pre reqs off the list, that will be huge incentive to survive a semester of studying, late nights, and a messy house.

Briggs,

I'm taking it at a CC in MA:

I'm taking it with Flynn. PM me if you are interested in it and want more info. I'm actually taking Dev Psych II; I CLEPed Human Growth and Dev and got credit for Dev Psych I. Is that an option for you??? I hope so -- that would solve your problem rather nicely, if you only need one semester of Dev Psych. :) I have the CLEP book for sale.

I know what you mean about the messy house! Well, it's not that bad, I've just learned to prioritize with my daughter first, then school, then work, and then my chores. :chuckle

I'm currently at a comm. college. Our winter and summer semesters are extremely short. They vary from 4 to 10 weeks long. I wanted to take my A&P I class during one of these semesters. Would anyone oppose to this? Do you think I need more time for this class?

Definitely would suggest taking A&P during the regular fall or spring semester. Save the shorter semesters for the non-science pre reqs.

I am a mom and did AP I quite well in NC, I have been out of college for 15 years, but our instructor is very nice from somewhere in Africa, he makes AP fun and enjoyable, though he has a deep accent but students we like him (he's also single:p ). This site is helpful for little stuff in AP http://anatomy-kit.com

Dantel50, Where are did you take your A & P class? I'm in NC too. I'm in Raleigh, taking classes at Wake Tech.

Hello Briggs, I do take A&P at Forsythtech Winston Salem, sorry I am in and out of the forum, I'd a sick kid. How are you doing at Wake Tech?

Thanks Dante50, Wake Tech is fine. I think I've worked it out to take A & P I at Wake Tech and then do the Dev. Psyc online. I've been out of the forum too. Sick kid first, and today is the happy day my youngest turns 3. My it goes by quick.
