A&P I/Chem OR A&P II/Micro ?

Published

Hi all,

I am having a schedule dilemma for the upcoming year and wanted to hear your advice regarding workload for one semester. I am currently working full-time (50+ hours a week) and am in the process of taking prerequisite classes for nursing school in hopes of attending by Fall 2013 at the latest. I need to take about 7-8 classes for the next year and wanted advice on if it was best to either take A&P I with Chemistry or A&PII with Micro for one semester. I have no choice but to double up as if I were to take these classes individually, it will set me back another year before I apply to a specific nursing school I hope to attend. Here are two tentative schedules I am looking at:

Spring 2012

Nutrition (online)

Statistics

Intro to Psychology (online)

Summer 2012

Chemistry

Sociology

Fall 2012

A&P I

English Comp (tentative)

Spring 2013

A&P II

Microbiology

Fall 2012

I am a hard worker and can study at work if I need to. I am also not afraid of doing whatever it takes (all-nighters, studying every day, etc.) to ace my class while working full-time. I just want to get into nursing school as soon as possible in hopes of being one step closer to living my dream. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

So I'm guessing you can't take Chem or Micro for the Spring? I prefer to take 1 lab class per semester so if you could juggle to put a lab class for the upcoming semester, I'd say go for that.

Otherwise, I found Micro to be somewhat of a lax class. It is pretty busy in the beginning though. I also think Chem is fairly easy and I almost took Chem/AP1 this semester but I may not apply to the school that requires Chem so I decided not to.

I can't take chem or micro for this spring as classes are already full. I don't need Chem as a prerequisite but most of the pre-req schools require it for Micro. Besides, it doesn't hurt to have as a foundational class for the other science classes.

So would you suggest Chem/API ?

Chem/API seems like it would be an ok mix. If your spring semester hasn't started yet, then you might also try to see if you can crash a chem or micro class. Our micro class was overbooked but 3 people dropped after the first class. From my previous undergrad days, I was able to get into a few classes by just showing up on the first day of class.

Thanks, leenak.
