A&P I and A&P II - need suggestions

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone. I am taking my prerequisites for the nursing school. I am planning to take A&P I in Spring 2012 and A&P in Fall 2012. Is it ok to take the summer off in between the two sections? Or should I take them back to back? Also, I am planning to start the nursing school in Fall 2013. Is it too early to take A&P? Thanks for all of your help.

I would take them back to back just to get it over with. I have not done that with both A&P classes as well as both Chem I and II. I don't think its ever too early to take A &P but I would take it before any nursing entrance exams you have to take(ex.TEAS) because taking those classes before my TEAS helped me alot.

Good luck!

I would say it depends on you personally. Initially, I was going to take them back to back but now I'm going to have a semester in between but I don't think it will make a difference for me. I definitely don't think its to early to take these courses they'll be a great help when and if you have to take the TEAS test.

Most schools require pre-reqs to have been completed within the 5 years prior to application. If they are confident admitting students who completed those courses years ago, then you shouldn't be worried. Just save your notes in case you wish to refer back to them later (a good idea for anyone, really!).

If your choices are taking A&P 2 during the summer session or skipping a semester between them, I would choose the latter. I assume your summer session is 8 or 10 weeks and while many on here have done it, it really can't be that much better than waiting until the fall. This is especially true since you have plenty of time before applying and aren't crunching to get in all the pre-reqs.

Best of luck! :)

I think it's fine to take AP I and II all through 2012 and then apply for a fall 2013 program. That seems about right to me.

Personally, I think it's best to take the summer off. I work a full time job and without summer I think I would really lose my focus and go crazy. If you're worried about forgetting the material during the summer, you'll know enough and start recalling what you learned from A&P I when you start again in the fall. Plus, these are tough courses and doing them in a short summer session vs a full fall semester can be the difference between an A and a C. You know what you can handle and what time frame you are working with. I know I do better with a full semester.

Aside from those 2 courses, have you taken MicroBio? Any other pre-reqs you'll need to do?

i took A P 1 last spring and now i am taking 2.....and micro in the spring......my app is in for fall of 12(fingers crossed)......i decided to take all sciences first instead of taking them with the actual RN program.....all i will have is the program....and from what i hear...that is enough!

My school requires you to have A&P taken before applying for the program. I am taking A&P next semester. Outside of that I still have to take Political Science, Microbiology and A&P 2. I would like to register for the fall 2012 program but I don;t think I'll have everything in time. I really do not want to take pre-reqs along with nursing program. Any ideas....

I took them back to back in two summer school sessions and did well. It does help if you don't leave too much time between the two....primarily in connecting the basic discussion of electrical potential in the cell and chemical activity with pumps. You see that in API and it pops up againa and again in APII. A summer off won't be that big a deal....waiting a full year would be more challenging. As an aside, the most important thing in APII is to get the hormones down cold. You normally study hormones first and then they pop up again and again as you go through each body system. Good luck!

It would be best, in my opinion, to take them back to back if possible. I took A&P I in 2007, and am taking A&P II next semester. I had a l-o-n-g break from school to get married and have two beautiful children! Definitely much harder now!!
