A & P 1 -- Fall 2010

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

OK, I've started this thread for various past semesters and something always happened that made me have to drop the course.

But here I go again - just registered for A & P 1 for this coming fall!!!!! And I refuse to let anything get in my way this time...

So who's with me?

Fear not!

A & P is segmented by system. It's all manageable chunks. It's very doable. I remember hearing all the horror stories about it, and then I took it and while there is a lot of work, there is no mystery.

You'll be fine.

Where/when are you taking it?

I just looked at my class schedule and realized it's not five weeks for my class, it's eight.. MCC W-Th 7:10-!0:00 pm

SUNY Canton......starts june 1 or 2 and ends july 2....live anywhere near here?

I just finished that class. It's totally do-able (I'm getting an A) if you just study, make time to study with a friend (if that helps you), and use the online help that's available. CourseCompass (came with my book) had online MP3 tutor sessions to download and listen to on you iPod of in the car, as well as many worksheets, etc. If you're not afraid to put in some time, you can rock that class. :) Good luck!

Good, I'm not afraid of putting in work. I am getting a low A in my other classes and don't think it's that bad if you just study where as a lot of other people are really struggling. I have to get an A in all my classes though because it's so competitive to get into the nursing program. I have to bring up my gpa so I'm still not sure about adding an additional class or not. I guess I have a little while to think about it.

i stand corrected for my A & P 1 course...it is not only 2hrs and 15 mins M- TH....it is 8 am til 12:30 pm M- TH......first 2 hrs lec...next 2 lab....there was a typo of sorts in the course catalog.....but still....4 and 1/2 weeks...i think that should be doable....:yeah:

I heard we get to dissect a cat! At first I thought it was gross but now I think it's pretty cool. In one class you skin it and the next you go through identifying all the parts because they are so similar to humans. It was be interesting for sure.

We did a cat for musculature, a sheep's brain for CNS and a cow eye for special senses. The smell was occasionally discomforting but no real problems.

There were several in the class who didn't want to deal with the things which makes me wonder how they're going to deal with a vomiting patient or one with an open head wound or multiple GSWs. They all say that that's different, and it probably is, but I can't think its because its better.

Now these are ER presentations, I guess, so maybe they'll never see them, but it seems to me that there will be plenty of opportunities to have to see and deal with the insides of people whatever ones specialty.

Hi there all...I also will be taking A&P 1 this Fall @ DCCCD...along w/ Spanish I (the first of 3 so I can fully learn the language by the time I apply...living in Dallas it's a must!) and Med Terminology and Nutrition. I think this will be a nice size load for me :)
