If money is no problem, why not pass time by getting your BSN prereqs at a community college? It's not worth the time and money it takes to become a LPN if you're not going to work at it full time, and if you're going to be working, getting your BSN will be way harder. Plus, bridging is a "lossy" process. LPN school works in the basic elements of many of the BSN prereqs, but they don't count when you go for a BSN. So you pay in time and money to cover the same material twice. If you can't afford to do it any other way than LPN to BSN, then you don't have much choice. But if you have the money, taking the shortest and straightest path to your ultimate goal makes the best sense.

I agree with anonymurse, it's best to use the time to take your prereqs. You want those as out of the way as possible before starting nursing classes to eliminate some huge headaches.

Believe me, becoming an LPN first will not get you closer to being an RN, time wise. Many bridge programs require a year of LPN experience to apply. The one I'm attending (in OH) is nearly as long as the regular RN program - just one semester less. The difference for me was that I had most of the prereqs already completed from LPN school. When all is said and done, my bridge program will have taken me 2 years (for ADN), this after spending 18 months in LPN school.

So even if it takes an extra year to get into school for BSN, you will save time in the long run.

almost every state has schools with LVN or ADN to BSN programs now. Should not be a problem there.

It must be nice that money is not a problem. I agree that you should focus on getting your prerequisites out of the way. You don't mention considering an ADN program. I'm curious as to what your ultimate goal is in nursing?

i have completed all my prereqs. the problem is i cannot seem to get into a bsn or adn program. unless you have straight A's in all your pre reqs, it is almost impossible to get into a program. i definitely do not have straight A's but my grades are passing. (B's and C's).

My ultimate goal is to get a BSN. I just want to get it as soon as possible. but i dont want to wait around applying to schools and not getting in anywhere. Would it make any difference on my applications to BSN programs if i mention that i have an LVN liscense?
