I have been at my job as a cna for about a month. Yesterday i had a sore throat and today it was worse. So i called in. He said well according to policy you need a doctors note. The doctors office is not open on saturday. I have to go to a clinic cause i don't have insurance. I am not sure what he is going to say when i go to work tomorrow. This is a small facilty. It can only house 31 and right now it only has 8. I am the only cna they have. But now i will have to wait til tomorrow and see what he says. He said we would talk about it when i came back. But i can tell you i am not going to put up with him bad mouthing me. Anyway if you were in this situation what would you do. Would you have called out cause you are sick, so you would not get everyone there sick. Or would you have gone in and taken the chance to get everyone sick?

I've worked at my facility for 4 years and have called in 3 times because my children were ill. They should know by now that i don't call in without a valid reason. Well a few weeks ago i got food poisioning the night before i was supposed to work 2 12 hour shifts in a row. i called them FROM the emergancy room. I told them i would be gone 2-3 days. As someone who never calls in i assumed they wouldn't say much, but when i got back my boss chewed me out about how i was gonna have to go on probation for my absente problem! She said it was funny how i got sick right before 2 long shifts! since i have worked there a long time, i calmly reminded her of how many itmes i had actually called in and explained to her that i wouldn't tolerate being treated badly for something beyond my control. she calmed down but as a new employee, you obviously don't have that clout. I mean, i'm sure the guy is mad(if you're the only CNA it was probably a big deal to cover your shift) but if you know you were truly to ill to come to work, let it slide and just keep from making a habit of it. We can't help when we get sick!

One girl on first shift got written up for not calling in on time. She got into a car accident on her way to work!

Thats insane! We've sadly had that happened more then once and its always excused with tons of prayers and offers of help.

I only call in if I have a fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or when my mania or depression go haywire.

Anything else in my opinion is frivolous.

Of course, I'm just crazy like that.
