MATC-Milwaukee NCLEX pass rate?

U.S.A. Wisconsin

Published

Hey,

I was just admitted to the ADN program at MATC-Milwaukee for the fall. I'm REALLY excited to finally be admitted into a clinical program. However, it makes me a little nervous because I read and hear some ugly things about their program. Yikes!

Does anyone know the NCLEX pass rate?

Anyone in the program and like it? :) Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

Also, should I brush up this summer on things like IV drip rates or A&P?

Thanks everyone!

Julian

Hi,

I've taken all my theory classes online except for my first semester classes. My advice for taking an online class is to you follow the calendar for the class and keep up with your assignments and discussion boards. I haven't had to do any presentations in any of my classes.

I have finally gotten accepted to start my core classes in fall!! Any advice for semester 1? I've been out of school for a year and a half during the petition process.....I'm excited to get started again, but nervous too!

If you guys want to check out how your professors are ahead of time you can go to: Rate My Professors - Find and rate your professor, campus and more - RateMyProfessors.com. I dont sign up for a class before I check out my teacher first.:yeah:

Make sure you know your math calculations and conversions from g to mg, mg to g etc...There is a math test you have to take and pass or you fail the class. Good luck!

Nursing 106 at MATC is such a pain in the *s#! I don't understand why need almost an entire semester of L/D, post par, and pregnancy. It looks more and more like I'm going to have to take this class over again. Sucks because, I hear how HARD 3rd semester is and If I fail another class after 106 it's all over for me. All I can say is nursing school is such a self esteem killer and really unhealthy mentally.

Craig,

My response to you is to take your theory classes at another tech school. It's so much easier at other schools. You can't afford to get kicked out. You can reapply for readmission only once after failing 2 classes. Take it from me a 4th semester student.

have you taken the Pre-NLN Admission Exam test for practical nursing? im set to take it next week...do we need specific scores?!!? any information would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks again! =)

Here is a update on the program from the Wisconsin board of nursing meeting : http://drl.wi.gov/meetings_notes.asp?thismeeting=2267

Response to the NCLEX pass rate....I think its 85% ( thats what an instructor told me, but my memory could be wrong). The nursing instuctors know what % pass nclex and average # of ?s a student gets on the exam( about 135 or so...it can range 75-250)...I know my numbers may be a little off. I passed with 75?s on the first try & it not as hard as people hype it up.

That being said....the number of people that passed in my graduation class, was small. Considering who we started out with, a lot of people get weeded out.

I would recommend some classes are great online & some should never be offered online....and some teachers are great & some are really bad. Talk to others!

I believe both MATC and UWM are struggling with their first time pass rate. I am finishing up 1st level clinicals (what you will be entering). Some teachers are great, some avoid if possible. Get with a group and study, study, study. It is nothing like the prereq's, we think we have lost 1/4-1/3 of the 88 we started with. Register at 7:45 on the day it starts. It fills up literally in minutes. Mequon or Downtown courses are awarded first come. You can take 101 online, people make it sound doable. 103 is a class to take in the classroom. If I get a chance I will post more in the future, hopefully some of us will line up as tutors for next semester to help you guys, unfortunately we had no tutors available. Best of luck and congrats...will see you on the "bridge" soon. Hope this helps

I'm just finishing third semester at MATC. Let me say this, I HATE MATC!! 1. what's with every single class, even clinical, being at the same time/same day? I understand the cheating thing, but still, even clinical??LAME. 2. Half the teachers suck. That's right, suck. Half the time they don't even know up from down. And NONE of them are practical or make decisions based off common sense. 3. All this Evolve BS, waste of money, as I can get all those nclex questions off the book site and CD.

What my experience has been is, study, study, study. Seriously, this program is easy if you just think about what you are reading, and i'm an online student. What I really hate, is you people who say, "ohhhh, you didn't say THAT in lecture, you can't give me that wrong!" Read your fricken book!!

That being said, i'm actually really nice, and if you have any questions about 1st, 2nd or 3rd semesters or teachers, i'd be happy to tell ya!
