MSN through WGU - Any advice to get it as quickly as possible?

I should hopefully be starting grad school online through in April for my MSN - Education. I have my BSN and am hoping to complete my degree as quickly as possible! I work for an academic medical center with their own IRB so I am wondering if anyone has attempted to start their capstone research/IRB process prior to actually starting school. I would start the program earlier but it is full until April. I'm hoping to decide on my capstone topic before I actually start so that I can hit the ground running!

The statement about the capstone project from the WGU website is, "Your final project will address a key issue, need, gap, or opportunity resulting from an identified need in nursing education or healthcare. The capstone project provides you the opportunity to demonstrate your competency and commitment to ultimately improving health outcomes." Most of my background is in emergency department nursing so I was thinking about doing something related to employee burnout in that specific department and how it is related to patient care.

- Has anyone started their capstone research prior to actually starting this degree?

- My enrollment counselor said that I can pick a preceptor to shadow for 90 hours - can you space this out over the course of the degree?

- Any advice on how to go through this program as quickly as possible would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

I feel like I already responded to this post. no longer requires a research project that involves IRB approval. Even if it did, it would be impossible to do that part ahead of time because you need to have a fully formed research proposal before you can submit to the IRB. And it's not just your IRB, but WGU's IRB that people had to submit to.

I got into the MSN-leadership and management starting January 1. I was initially told I had to wait until April 2016 but I got lucky and got a spot sooner. Good luck with your studies. I look forward to this adventure and do hope I get a job I love and make lots more money when I'm finished.
