How many classes did you take within those 2 months of that arduous journey?

I believe it was 14..

Specializes in Outpatient/Clinic, ClinDoc.

There are two exams in the Informatics focused courses, the rest are a mix of papers and charts/graphs (like dbase, visio, powerpoint, etc)..

Specializes in Psych, IV antibiotic therapy med-surg/addictions.

Hi, congratulations on your success! How were the other "P" classes, Patho and pharm? How did they assess competency? I see that patho is taught by "syndromes" rather than by body systems. Do you think these would be accepted by np programs for transfer? Thanks in advance!

The informatics program doesn't have the pharm class. Not sure why, but the other two tracks do have it.

From what I hear, the patho class is usually not accepted for a NP program and honestly don't think it should be. It's a very long paper on a selected disease process (I did obesity, but there are other options)..

Congrats!!!!

Would you mind posting the titles of a few of the text books used in the courses?

I would like to look at them and see if it is a good fit for me.

I'm a BSN grad March 2017.

Thanks!

I'm a WGU BSN grad March 2017.

Thanks!

I don't have access to them anymore.. I know the stats class uses the Munro stats book I used in the BSN, but most of the informatics classes use bits and pieces from at least 10 different books. I'd probably just browse through a general nursing informatics book and/or website.. You'll be using microsoft access and visio for several projects as well.

Great advice!

Hello,

Congrats on completing the program! I am very interested in the MSN informative program. I'm torn btw , Univeristy of South Alabama and University of Maryland-Baltimore. While I was comparing WGUs program to other respected programs I noticed that they all offer a finance course but WGU does not. Do you remember learning in any of the courses about healthcare and hospital finance? It is appealing that I can possibly complete WGUs program within a year but their comparative coursework concerns me. I would like to be as prepared as possible upon graduation (I have no previous experience in IT- I've been a floor OB nurse for 4 yrs).

It's possible that the leadership track offers a finance class (I don't think so), but the informatics track does not. I'd be surprised if many other informatics tracks do, as that's not a common job responsibility for an informatics RN, but I admit I don't know for sure. If you need that as a credited class, you'll have to go to another school.

The MBA/Healthcare at does offer finance as a class.

Congratulations! What did you have to do for capstone? Also do you think they would help me get a preceptor? I just applied to their rn-msn. Thank you!

They seem to be offering to help get preceptors now - some of my fellow students recently got emails to that effect. I have no idea how effective they are. The capstone for the Informatics MSN is currently different from the other two tracks and is a full evaluation/presentation on an EMR.

Thank you! I don't have access to an EMR or preceptor. Do you think they would help me get both? Thank you again!
