2nd Career guy looking at WGU pre-licensure program

Nursing Students Western Governors

Published

Hey everyone,

I am currently looking into for my pre-licensure RN degree and my MSN. Ultimately, I would like to be an NP. I would love any feedback on the BSN pre-licensure program and the MSN program. I am early thirties and this would be a second degree for me. I already have a Bachelors and Masters in other fields.

I would really like to know if anyone has completed an MSN with WGU and gone on to a post-MSN certificate program at a traditional school.

I don't want to do anything that would drastically hurt may chances of NP school but I am attracted to WGU due to the structure of it. I have a family and love the flexibility of it.

Any information would be helpful! Thanks.

Specializes in NICU, ICU, PICU, Academia.

First, the pre-licensure program is only available in five states: Indiana, Florida, California, Texas and Washington.

Second, I was accepted into two different DNP programs and a post-MSN advanced practice program with my MSN.

Next, WGU was just named a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence for Nursing Education.

Finally, I highly recommend their pre-licensure program. I am a clinical instructor in Indiana- and most of 'my' students have jobs waiting when they graduate.

Thanks so much for your information. I currently live in Texas. Glad to hear you got in to NP school. My plan is to do through a MSN in Nursing Education and then hopefully get into a post-MSN NP certificate program at one of the schools in TX. I just want to be sure I am competitive enough before going all the way with WGU.
