Nursing License number fraud question

Got a quick question maybe someone can answer. I am an RN in Longview and recently found out someone i know in the Tricities got a hold of my nursing license number and used it for a job. They didnt run a check on it when they hired her but someone new came to human resources and was doing checks while cleaning up human resources and caught the name difference. Apparently it was not for an actually nursing job *just doing phlebotomy* but the place required an RN license even though the state doesnt require it for this position. Yes I am furious as hell but what I want to know is what kind of trouble is this person in legally? SHe never gave them a copy of anything, just read off my license number while applying for the job and they wrote it down. I know she didnt mean any harm for it considering she does have a medical background and the job itself doesnt require an rn education. She is 1- credits short of her RN but is a medical assistant. Anyone have any clues?

that is a felony with possible multiple counts...she put her rn license in limbo if you press charges.

You know this person? I read the WAC's regarding this and it is punishable by law (I think it said fine and/or time) for mis-representing oneself as an RN...your situation is even worse, she stole your license! THAT IS FRAUD!!!!

I think the degree to which the potential penalties are applied will depend on what she did while using your license number and her own credentials in relation to the tasks she performed.

Either way this person is in a lot of trouble. The facility required an RN to do phlebotomy so she did pass her self off as an RN.

It wasn't a "phlebotomy" job, it was an RN position obtaining blood.

I can't help but think the reason the employer required an RN for the job is because there was the potential for tasks not in the phlebotomis scope of practive, central line and port draws being the first things that come to mind.

On top of any criminal penalties it is very likely the BoN will not issue her a license when she does gradute and take boards AND any state endorsments she holds as a medical assistant my be revoked.

OK. This info is too easily obtained online these days through the department of health. I think the agency involved should be held responsible too for not varifying the information. There is just no excuse.

I'm no legal expert, but I would think besides misrepresenting herself as an RN, you may also consider identity theft. Even if she didn't give your name, she represented your license as her own, which is part of your identity. I think she could/should be in serious trouble. Also, if she did something offensible and she is tied to your license in some way, that could stir up a can of worms for you. My advice is to look into it before someone else does.

Did you talk to her or something? How do you know she's only 1 credit short? I can't imagine being that despirate to try and use someone elses license number....wierd especially for someone so close to getting their own. I'm an LPN in Longview will be RN in June...just a hey from across town :)
