Move to Seattle?

U.S.A. Washington

Published

Hi All,

Was looking to get some insight from other nurses. I'm going to be ending a travel assignment in Southern California in the Fall. I'm considering either

A) taking another travel assignment in Seattle

B) move there for about a year

C) stay put here in SoCal

I have done a travel assignment in Tacoma, WA and loved being fairly close to Seattle. I was wondering what recommendations people have in regards to hospitals in Washington that are either travel friendly or are hiring?

I was also wondering if I could get input on average rent, good areas to live in downtown. Just some general information would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I can't speak to the hospitals, but I can answer the living in Seattle questions!

Seattle is very expensive. If you want to live downtown (or honestly, any cool neighborhood) you should expect to pay at least $1700/m for a one bedroom. I see a lot on Craigslist that are $2200 and up. You could probably find a studio for around $1300. I would recommend not living downtown. Seattle has so many wonderful neighborhoods that are a quick commute to downtown (and will also save you some money).

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

Of course the recommended hospitals depend on your specialty, but there are some very good hospitals in the Seattle area. Most are travel-friendly and are doing a lot of hiring as Seattle continues to grow by leaps and bounds. On the flip side of Seattle's increasing population, housing can be quite expensive and challenging to find. I would recommend finding housing as close as possible to your chosen hospital so you will have commuting options beyond a car, because the traffic here is no joke.

Best of luck in your new adventure!

I currently work in Seattle but live in Mukilteo. It's easier to find affordable housing if you live in one of the surrounding areas. Check out Everett in Snohomish County or further south like Renton for affordable places to live. You could also consider finding a roommate. I found a pretty good house share deal on Craigslist, I don't intend to stay here for long but at least it's keeping my housing affordable until my next gig. Good luck
