I am trying to decide between Everett and Skagit. Just thought I would ask here and see if anyone was actually in one of the programs and had thoughts about them.

I am located right between the two schools so the distance is about the same.

I just graduated from Skagit in March, and am taking my NCLEX tomorrow! I HIGHLY recommend their program, it was difficult and stressful like any program, but the instructors are very supportive and encouraging. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Everett uses grades for admittance and skagit uses a wait list. I would love to know how long it took, after you finished pre-reqs, to get accepted from the wait list.

Thanks for your reply. :)

I'm about ready to graduate from Everett. Strong program. I still have a lot to learn but what I've heard from co-workers @ the hospital in Everett is that its well known that Everett has a tough program that turns out good nurses.

You also might want to look at this: https://fortress.wa.gov/doh/hpqa1/hps6/Nursing/documents/Nursing_Program_Pass_Rates.pdf

Its the pass rates for programs in Washington for first-try Nclex takers.

And as I was told when I applied to nursing schools: apply to more than one!!

I was accepted into the program at Skagit before the pre-reqs were required to be finished before you could get on the wait list, but my instructor did tell me before graduation the wait is about 1-1.5 years as of now. They are admitting people every quarter so it should start to catch up. I agree, apply to both and it will give you options, I am sure both schools put out good nurses.

My sister and I both applied there in December, was told the waiting list was 2 years long, so we both got on it. Luckily I got into UW so I will not be attending Skagit unless I fail out of UW this year.. lol.

Skagit is good because you don't have to have wonderful grades to get in, mostly 2.0 is good enough I think (which was wonderful news to my sister, heheh).

I have considered going to Skagit for my LPN to RN. I would check their failure rate, not the NCLEX exam, but the school nurse program. The word is that they fail many people. If you check their class registrations (which I have) for 2nd year nursing they only have about 14 to 18 people left out of 30 in the class. I don't know how much of this is true and I don't know why so many people would fail unless they just aren't commited, but the whole thought is daunting.

Apply to both. I did and was on SVC waiting list for 2.5 years before I got a call. I don't remember the wait for EVCC but by the time they reviewed my file, I was already onto to Excelsior College. I was an LPN looking to get into the second year of the RN programs at both schools. The wait was longer in my case because fo the need to wait for vacancies from year one of the program. I completed Excelsior in less time than it would have taken me to even get into SVC or EVCC. If your situation is different (just starting out in nursing), you'd be best to cast your net wide. Good luck, and be persistent.

I have heard the same thing... anything from1-2 years once you have completed your pre-req's. SVC @ Whidbey island offers a LPN program that has a much shorter waitlist (months not years) and then offers a placement into 2nd year RN @ Skagit in Mount Vernon. Hopefully that helps, I am muddling my way through too!

Thought I'd revive this thread. Any news on current wait times? I saw on the website that they're starting to have Fall 2009 applicants obtain a CNA license prior to applying. I was hoping this would mean less applicants and shorter wait times.

I just spoke with a nursing advisor there and was informed that the waitlist is being closed. They said anyone on the current wait list would get information sent in the mail, and everyone else would find out when they updated their website. They also said to attend a current info session for the latest news, but that admittance would be based on GPA and a few other requirements. This change could be a good thing if you have high grades!

That is true. They are going to close the waiting list but they don't know when or

how. They should know by the end of winter quarter.
