LPN program CLOSED by BON-VA 5/10/11 what to do!

When I lived in VA (many years ago) New Horizons had a hard time meeting accreditation requirements as well as having very low pass rates. Sorry this happen to you. I actually had a school close on me,right out of HS I went to cosmotology school, wasnt good at it, but only had a month to graduate and BAM they closed the doors - another cosmotology program accepted credits (Jan Mar closed and Hampton took the credits [i opted out and didnt continue with it, it wasnt for me anyway). So maybe another school will be doing this (accepting credits, may still be behind though) with rumors of your closed school. IDK, they may/may not - nursing is a different ball league than cosmotology and much more competitive but it wouldnt hurt to try. Call around, try MCI (I know theyre expensive) and RIverside. If you decide to change and go to school for RN, may I advise to check the school accreditation as well as their pass rates before applying. Sorry this happened, good luck to you!!!

thanx, thats what the BON-VA informed me of. the school would have to look at my transcript to see if they will take any of the credits. My fear is starting over and I worked hard and paid out of pocket ( ITS NOT FAIR) :mad: they should have closed those doors along time ago.

Very sorry for your misfortune however I would recommend staying away from The College Network as they are a publishing company that provides materials (at exorbitant prices) for degree programs. I would recommend looking around for a different LPN program in your area or perhaps going to a community college for your RN. If you can get in a different LPN you can also do an LPN to RN (ASN) bridge program online as yet another option. Hope everything works out for you.

When I lived in VA around that area, I went to Medical Careers. Great accreditations, well recognized in every state I've lived in (military) and eligible for the transitions programs. It is expensive, difficult, but worth it. they have a very HIGH NCLEX pass rate.

Whatever you do, I would research the school heavily this time and go with one that is accredited and has high pass rates.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I would be highly upset also. I agree with everyone else, please do your research on the next school you attend. While MCI is a tempting option, you have to ask yourself do you really want to be in that much debt. From what I have heard their RN option is like $40,000. I would recommend Riverside or Tidewater Community College. They both have great programs and good NCLEX pass rates. Whatever you decide, I wish you well in your studies and take care :)

:eek: WOW!!! AND, when I called them (we had orders to move back to the area this year), even though I received my LPN through them, they did NOT offer a transition program, so I would have had to sit through their entire program to get my RN. And, the colleges up there, regardless of where you graduate from, you have to bridge to your RN within 5 years of graduating LPN... I would have had to start all over again if we moved back. Thankfully everything worked out, and MY DH's orders kept us here and I can finish my bridge in 11 months.

Plus, because it is strictly a vocational school, their classes are not college credit classes. Thank God it is the LPN license that gets you into a transition program, because none of my classes I had there were good for any credits.

I went to MCI on a whim. I was offered to start in 2 weeks at the time when they had a 6 month waiting list because of my test scores... I wasn't prepared (I just went cause a friend did and went ahead and took the NET - I got in before she did) and didn't look around at other options first.

Looking back, I do wish I would have gone through the community college to get my LPN, or went straight for my RN. It was $12,000 for the LPN program when I went 12 years ago, so I imagine it is more now... but I didn't think it was THAT MUCH MORE!!!

Don't get me wrong, I stand by my statement... It *IS* a good school (Almost guarantee you WILL pass your NCLEX), but there are many other options. Echoing everyone else, make SURE it is accredited with everything needed.

MCI was missing one accreditation that would have kept me from working with a contract company that works with the DOD (can't remember which accreditation it is), even though I've been a nurse for 12 years, and have held my license in 5 different states. Once I am done with this bridge program, I won't have to worry about it, now.

Good luck, find something quickly so you don't give up and say phooey. I'm sorry this happened...

I had my last year of LPN to finish and found out 5/18/11 BON-VA closed the program:crying2:
can not get funds back at all, the school was NEW HORIZONS in Hampton VA
Where can I go to finish? any HELP would be GRATEFUL:)
Should I accept this as a blesssing in disguise and go for RN ( THE COLLEGE NETWORK)?

I'm very sorry to hear your situation. :crying2: I am a recent graduate of New Horizons LPN. (class of 2010). Throughout school year (2009-2010) the program was in trouble. NCLEX scores have been horrible for years. I passed on the first try. :yeah:But we just didn't know when it would actually happen. The have been on probation for the past 5yrs and VA BON had enough. Try to see if you can finish up in another program...if not I would go for your RN. It's a shame that they continued to take money from students and knew they were about be shut down. It sounds just like them.

I'm over at Riverside in the RN program, and I can tell you its a good school and it isn't closing its doors and our pass rates for NCLEX are very good. If you interested, I would give them a call and speak to the registrar to make an appointment to discuss your situation. Our day program is 1 year long and the evening/weekends is 18 months. I can't say if they will accept any of New Horizons credits or not, that you will have to find out directly. Total tuition is currently advertised as 10,620 not counting books and some other fees. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I am looking into RHS- LPN or RN? I just feel like I have lost so much doing my 1st year of LPN and now its down the drain:crying2: How was the teas test and what should I study? I have to pay that 100$ lol smh I got my big girl panties on and ready to handle my business like a grown woman :lol2:

Go to the ATI testing site (the makers of the teas test) and get THEIR book! It is the ONLY book I used and had every single thing you need to know addressed in it. The book is like $42. If you get the additional tests, it is $80. The book comes with 2 tests in it, so I didn't buy the other tests...
