Hey Determined, HU's Va Beach program is an accelerated 3 year BSN program, may take you about 2 1/2 years depending on what you have completed so far. I was told to come in as a transfer student you had to have at least 15 transferable credits and also it is recommended to have your sciences completed as well as your communications class. Also you need to have a good GPA. As far as cost, they are considerably cheaper than the main Hampton campus and you can apply for an additional grant called the VTAG in addition to your Pell Grant which will help bring down costs. Hey Virgolove, I did just like you and checked their NCLEX pass rates and they are good. I got accepted to NSU's program but something did not sit with me well there and due to other conflicts I passed. At the same time I applied at Hampton U-VA Beach and and got accepted into their program. I was suppose to start this Fall but I had to defer my enrollment due to personal stuff at home. I will definitely be starting in the Spring. I also considered TCC's program however Hampton U allows me to start sooner and I will finish in Spring 2014 which is the same time the TCC's 2012 class will finish and have my BSN. The competition for TCC's program is fierce from what I hear but as long as you got your prereqs done and have a high GPA I'm sure you will get in :). I have heard that the Sentara BSN program is not accredited however that is due to it is a new program and they need to have a few graduating classes first. Their RN diploma program was accredited so I don't think getting accreditation for the BSN program will be a problem for them. I guess only time will tell though. Good luck to everyone in obtaining their nursing degrees :).

To gain admission I was told you have to have at least 15 transferable credits, I recommend get as many as you can. Also you want to make sure you have at good GPA. Out all of the classes I took at TCC, 19 of my credits apply to their nursing program. Could have had more but my first few semesters I was figuring things out so some of the classes didn't count. When I spoke to a rep in the nursing dept she recommended I get my science classes out of the way as well as my communications class. I especially recommend getting your sciences done. I just found out I have to defer my enrollment due to unforeseen circumstances in my home so I will be attending TCC to finish up a few more classes in the Fall and then I will start at Hampton U in the Spring. As far as schedule, there is not a set time frame you go to class. Your schedule basically depends on what classes you need to take that semester. For example if I was to attend school in the Fall then I would have went to class on Mon from 9am-11:50am and 1:00pm-2:50pm, on Thurs 2:00pm-4:50pm, and on Fri 9:00am-11:50am.

Congrats on considering Hampton University's program....will you be trying to go to the main campus or the VA beach campus? I have not graduated from the program however I have been accepted into the program this year. I will be attending the VA Beach campus. It is more cost effective to attend that campus and they have a really good NCLEX pass rates. I know what you are talking about. It is the Hampton campus not the VA beach campus that is having the issues.

Unfortunately I will be leaving this group because I will not be attending the ADN program at this time. An opportunity to attend a BSN program came my way and I decided to go that route so instead of graduating in 2013 I will be graduating in 2014. Thanks for the advice. I have looked at NSU's NCLEX pass rates and they were not that high. I also heard about the HESI from my aunt, she has to take it again in order to be considered a graduate of the program and to be be able to sit for her NCLEX. I unfortunately will be unable to attend NSU to certain circumstances however I will be attending Hampton University's VA Beach campus for their nursing program. What school did you attend for your nursing education?

Welcome and congrats to all the new people who joined this group!! Well I got my uniforms and shoes ordered, completed by CPR class and background check, and purchased my liability insurance. I turned all my paperwork into my school's nursing dept and was told to wait to receive an email about the nursing success institute that will take place a week before classes start. I was told to go ahead and purchase my textbooks so this coming week I will look into that. I'm using financial aid so I have to see how that is going to work.

Hey Chambo did you ever purchase your shoes yet? If so, what kind did you get? I went to order my uniforms today and she had me try on two pairs. One was Timberland and I can't remember what the other one was. Both were comfortable to me but these shoes are kind of pricey. I decided not to buy my shoes yet. I will be buying them tomorrow or Friday and I'm looking online to see if I can find a good deal.

I know, it's getting closer and closer to that time for all of us to start.

I have not purchased my shoes either. I will probably get them from the uniform shop we have to order from or I may get them from this other uniform store that is right by my place.

Hey VannVann, I don't think it is too much. I think it is better to be well prepared and be ready to jump right in the first day of class. I think it is great they are giving you readings and assignments now that you can get done before the first day of class. When the nursing classes actually start then you can kind of decide if your method of studying and preparing is going to work with the courseload they give you. Do what works best for you and if this method helps you succeed in nursing school then do your thing. When exactly is the first day of class for you? I think I will be going through something similar in August at my school. A week before classes start we have to attend a Nursing Success Institute the whole week and I'm looking forward to that. Keep us posted and keep up the great work :). You are an encouragement and I know you will do very well in nursing school .

I don't know where the clinicals are. I figured they would be in Norfolk or VA Beach. I wonder how do we find out.
