Salt Lake City Area Hospital Overview

U.S.A. Utah

Published

Background: I'm currently located in MT, graduating in May '15. Very interested in SLC as a place to live (skiing & rock climbing are my main passions). I just drove through the other day and there appeared to be an overwhelming amount of hospitals visible from the interstate!

Can anyone give a run-down of the hospitals in the area? Interested in any and everything between Bountiful and Provo. My experience and interests lie in ED, ICU, CV. General comments on nursing in UT vs. MT (or elsewhere)? Anecdotally I've heard things like the job market is really tough for new grads, wages tend to be lower, cost of living is high...

I also am aware that the VA hospital will repay up to 120000 in debt, but they require you to work there for so many years after.

Interesting. Do you know if they take new grads?

I think they will with the right resume... They have a training program like the U does for new grads too so I'm sure they will.

Interested in travel nursing in SLC or near a Utah ski resort. Do any of ya'll know if hospitals near the slopes hire seasonal nurses over the winter? Or do you know of how regularly travel nurses are utilized by SLC hospitals? Thanks in advance.

Specializes in L&D/postpartum.

Might be getting late in the season but check out Park City Medical Center. It's a pretty small but cushy place that ends up with busier winters for ER and OR due to all the ski injuries. They do have some trouble keeping staff due to cost of living, so I wonder if you could work out a deal if not a straight seasonal contract.

Utah doesn't particularly have a nursing shortage, but I have worked with one traveler. OR and PACU had tons where I was.
