Just applied to UTA

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I just applied for the online RN-BSN program. If accepted, I plan to start in May 2013. I would appreciate any feedback on the program. I work fulltime in home health (5 days a week, every 3rd weekend, and on call for 1 week every 6 weeks) and I hope that the program is not too difficult and stressful. Are the mentors/coaches helpful? Are the assignment due dates realistic for the fulltime nurse? Are most of the books, eBooks? I am under the impression that the nursing books are available online at no cost, is this true? Lastly, I hope that UTA will accept my transferrable classes. Can anyone offer any incite to this? I guess I'm just nervous because I don't know what to expect. What does the classwork consist of? Are there lots of online exams and essays?

Any information and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks J

oh wow! You might try taking the CLEP exam on some of the intro classes, like psych and sociology - I've heard those are fairly easy to study for. I just took the second history class during a 2 week summer session through the Dallas Community Colleges and it was easy. If you are in DFW then consider enrolling for the summer II session there. You could knock out two classes before the UTA August start.

I finally spoke to my advisor. We determined that I will not be ready for a January start, but next fall instead. Kinda ******, but it'll give me time to really be ready. I have to take micro AGAIN... the micro exam from excelsior doesn't work BC it's not 4 hours. Needs the lab component. And my chemistry is from 13 years ago, and I got a D in the class.

Despite this, I actually feel pretty good about the delay. I need to be fully prepared and i felt kind of rushed, trying to get started for January.

I'm in the same boat, January just doesn't seem possible with my work schedule and the amount of classes I need. I'd rather take my time and keep my science GPA up. Are you in DFW? I'm taking Chemistry starting July 11 for 5 weeks through DCCCD. In case you want a study buddy ;) It's way cheaper than going through UTA. I think with the book and lab kit I spent just under $400.

Well, after much thought, I decided not to go with UTA. I have been in contact with Grand Canyon University and so far I like their program much better. I was able to transfer over 84 units and only have to take 12 core nursing classes. There is no entrance exam, it's 100% online, no proctored exams, you don't have to have college algebra, and the classes are 5 weeks long. They are a bit expensive but after UTA added 5 additional classes they actually end up being cheaper and I will have my BSN quicker. I am in the process of enrolling. Their response time blows UTA out of the water. I provided my contact info online and received a call from a very nice and professional enrollment advisor who follows you throughout the entire program. I had an unofficial transcript and they reviewed it and emailed me a preliminary course schedule along with the transferable units within 24 hours. They assisted me with applying for federal loans, had an answer for all my questions, and I had no problems hearing back from them. Your enrollment advisor does everything for you: requests transcripts, make your course schedule, assists with applying for financial aid, and etc. So far very pleased. I plan to start July 29th....so I will keep you all posted as to how their program is.

So I start on 08/19. Three classes. Stats, medical terminology, English 1302! Kinda excited!

Nice to see that people actually get their transcripts evaluated by UTA. I sent mine. Although they say it is in there, it has never made it to MY MAVS, despite my inumerous calls to Registrar. They keep saying "it will show in my MAVS in 3 days... and it has been 30 days!! The advisor told me she would help and talk to Registrar... really? Didn't happen. But I am glad for you guys that didn't loose your initial 50 dollars... good luck with the program! :-)

This is very confusing to me. Many of you are posting that you won't be able to start till next year, yet the person I've been talking to tells me if I'm accepted I should be able to start Sept. 23.

Also, I don't have a student email. When I called the help desk they said I couldn't set one up until I'd been admitted.

I was also told I did not have to take chemistry.

I had the same problem with my transcripts.

Stats is pretty time consuming. I thought it was easy, but I'm a math nerd. But even still, it took a lot of time.

Are you doing the RN-BSN? I believe what you are referring to are the individuals that are starting the pre licensure BSN program it only has two start dates a year.
