Just applied to UTA

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I just applied for the online RN-BSN program. If accepted, I plan to start in May 2013. I would appreciate any feedback on the program. I work fulltime in home health (5 days a week, every 3rd weekend, and on call for 1 week every 6 weeks) and I hope that the program is not too difficult and stressful. Are the mentors/coaches helpful? Are the assignment due dates realistic for the fulltime nurse? Are most of the books, eBooks? I am under the impression that the nursing books are available online at no cost, is this true? Lastly, I hope that UTA will accept my transferrable classes. Can anyone offer any incite to this? I guess I'm just nervous because I don't know what to expect. What does the classwork consist of? Are there lots of online exams and essays?

Any information and opinions are appreciated.

Thanks J

Thanks Imh1981, I just received mine this week....

Lol so guess what I'm missing a transcript from a college When I took a math prep class a long time ago. And they called yesterday to tell me that. The deadline for them to have that to start July is I think tomorrow. And it's so funny that they sent that email saying I had all my required paperwork when I really didn't. Oh well I guess I'll be looking at August 12 hopefully. Probably give me sometime to get finances better. I dunno.

I was accepted at UTA but was notified that I would have to take like 5 additional classes: College Algebra, Political Science, Texas Government, Lit, and art. I looked into Grand Canyon University and they accepted all my transferrable classes, leaving only 12 core nursing classes to take. Still researching this university. Have any of you researched this university? I do know that their response time is way faster than UTA.

TamTam, I was wondering how things are going for you. I gave up on UTA and now looking into Grand Canyon University.

Wow, it is a little frustrating to see it takes this long for the application reviews at UTA. I got notification on Jun 4th that my app was complete, but if people are taking 3+ months to get accepted there is no way I'll make an August start :(

Actually this is what the CON advisor told me, hopefully he is targeting an August start with enough time for me to get ready. I will be in contact once my evaluation is complete. Your patience is much appreciated. I am aware of the registration deadlines to register for the upcoming session. Your evaluation will be completed to allow you a sufficient amount of time to register. In the meantime, please feel welcome to review the admissions brochure and visit the course schedule, registration calendar, and the official website for the Online, Academic Partnershipwebsites for more information about the Online, AP BSN program.

They received my transcript but I'm assuming I'm going to take just as much. Haven't heard. I was also considering wgu but not sure if I should go for it since it may limit my chances for some schools with the 3.0 gpaI wouldn't have to take so many classes tho. Do np schools take acct only your bsn gpa? Or will they factor the asn gpa too?

I'm a little leery of ...while I like their program for it requiring less prerequisites, they don't seem to hold the same quality standard for their students for what you come in with compared to UTA. For example, they will except StraighterLine online course credits and other credit from schools with lesser accreditation than regular universities. The list the advisor sent me to take biochem outside of WGU included a school (Mountain View University) that was shut down January 2013 after not meeting NCA-HLC accreditation! Other options in the list wouldn't transfer to a regular university. My career goal is to go onto a NP program like you, and I just feel that the more competitive programs might not look favorably upon the WGU grads all things considered...now that's just my opinion, I'm sure plenty of successful students have made it through and found opportunities, I just prefer to be as top tier as possible so that later on I don't run into any road bumps. It may be a few more classes and take you longer, but you will have a stronger education foundation for grad school.

I agree. Just waiting to be accepted hopefully for 8/12. Just want to get this bsn over with!

I'm hoping for the same. How many of the prereqs do you still need to fulfill? I've got all the sciences, a Texas govt class, Literature, Sociology, Dev Psych, Statistics...I don't think I'll make the January deadline for Sept 2014 start. It really sucks to take general ed courses after I already finished a BA and MA, but what are you going to do...I'm taking Chemistry and Govt in a July summer session at a community college. I just got word that my courses were evaluated by UTA so now just waiting on the CON.

I need intro psyc sociology both history's texas gov or whatever govt statistics and eng1102 plus their tech writing! So I need quite a few but as long as I'm considered in a RN-BSN program it doesn't matter. The classes are relatively short so it won't seem so bad. Planning to take 2-3 at a time since I work 2 part time jobs

Oh and art and political science!! Everything since I got my asn and said screw with school! Now I'm paying for it lol
