Easiest and Toughest Classes In UT Arlington RN-BSN Program

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

I am looking to double up on nursing classes while in the RN-BSN program. I realize that it might be wiser to take certain classes alone and not double up. This thread is for everyone enrolled in the RN-BSN program to discuss which classes are the most/least difficult.

I'm a history major and I say no Govt was a pain I will say that we have a December mini govt or history at Vernon college and both of the teachers who teach them are relatively easy if maybe you wanted to say knock out a history before taking the other one

What English are you taking is it the tech writing? I was accepted but I need to retake my English 1301&1302 since I took it in my country and advising people keep saying that its due to course description. Now I'm waiting for my 1302 to be over this coming dec so I can start my Prof A&B.

Hello to all nurses,

It's been a while since I have posted. It seems that most of the post regarding UTA RN-BSN program are at least a couple of years old so I am going to share my RN-BSN journey through UTA. Perhaps someone may benefit. I enrolled in Jan 2014. I continue to work full time and very seldom extra time unless it's in between courses. I have taken 6 courses as of to date. Technical writing, American literature, Vulnerable Populations, Holistic care of Older Adult, Professional Nursing and Health Promotion. I am about half way complete. I hope to double up on a couple of classes in order to finish soon. I have done very well in the courses. Managing 2 B's and 4 A's, however a lot of time went into the assignments. Often I only had time for work, school, school and work. I was also hesitant to double up because I did not know what to expect from each new course. Now that I've taken a few, I would say holistic care of the older adult is one that can be doubled. The blackboard and menu has been easy to navigate. The instructions are usually pretty clear and examples are often included. Coaches usually respond in 24 hours sometimes sooner. Quite a bit of leg work such as looking up information online, library, medical journals etc. goes into the assignments. I feel if your focus is to "get her" done instead of make A's and B's you may be able to double on more, but weigh out your personal schedule. Oh yeah my focus is to "get her" done but I'm a bit antsy at times and don't bite off more than I can chew!

Thanks for sharing your experiences... Can you provide more information on vulnerable....

After the Spring semester is complete, I will only have Nursing Research, Nursing Management and Capstone. Does anyone know if there are three 5 week sections during the Summer or will I need to take these together?

Hi. i would not take anything else with Research. Just my take. It is by far the most difficult of the nursing classes.

I agree with most posters on the difficulty of the classes. I work full time and have a middle school-age son. I am older and this whole process has been a challenge! My rating is as follows: Research is in a folder on my computer titled, "Class from...". Right behind it is Health Assessment. Research is soooo dependent on two issues - your group and your Coach. If you get stuck with a bad group (as in their standard is "good enough") and a nit-picky, non-helpful Coach, life is tough! Hours and Hours of work and frustration. Health Assessment is TEDIOUS and nit-picking - address the common errors and every part of the rubric! Hours and hours of pointless writing. Both classes should be taken alone if you work and have family. Leadership and Vulnerable pops are equally difficult - mainly due to the writing/project aspect. I wouldn't take them together, but I took one with Health Promotions and one with Legacy of the Family, and that was doable, but a lot of writing. Stay on top of the work! The Legacy of the Family was a surprise kicker with the one test (15%) that covers info in a poorly written book. UGH, but made it up with other grades. Finally in Capstone - kind of vague instructions, but then that has been the issue with all the classes. As others have said - it's saving grace is that it is the end. Can't wait! If anyone has advice on Capstone, would love to hear. Best to all.

I just graduated the program Dec 2014 and started back in Jan 2014. I started off taking one class at a time and ended up doubling classes all the way till the end because I really wanted to get done within one year. Most classes was not hard at all just very tedious work just follow the rubrics to the tee as you are writing up the assignments you'll be fine. The grading is fairly laid back from my experience except for nursing research the only B I got throughout the program. Nursing research was a pain...it is trial and error and luck all rolled into a course either way you''l eventually move on.

Capstone wise....save your powerpoint presentation from management!! I used the same powerpoint presentation but just tweaked it to comply with the rubric requirement and I made an A. It still comprised of you logging your weekly experience like the cooperative nursing elective course. You submit your updated resume with your graduation date as you have done with past courses. Overall, if you reuse that powerpoint it will save you a lot of headache and make capstone much easier! The discussion requirement is just the same as all other courses.

A few posts back someone listed the easiest to hardest class for the program. That was fairly accurate but unfortunately due to the availability of some classes you had no choice but to double up unless you were okay with dragging it out but it is doable!

hey,

congrats on the completion on the program! Just started off mine this jan with ENG II and you can see I ve a long way to go!!

Which classes did you double up? Im currently not working and def thinking about doubling classes. I have to take nursing prof Feb23 and then the game begins for me I guess.

I would appreciate your input since you have been able to finish it up in one year and with all As except one. How many classes you had to take I meant the gen reqs ? I know the nursing core is same for everyone.

thanks,

Ayesha

Quite honestly it may have been more manageable for me because Brit lit was the only gen req I had to take. I was fortunate enough that previous works was transferrable. Professional Nursing and Health Promotions, Holistic health assessment and vulnerable populations I took by themselves. I doubled up on the rest Nursing research with Co-Op nursing work experience, holistic care of older adult and nursing management, and then british literature and capstone.

I have seen other coworkers gone through other programs but I have nothing but great stuff to say about UTA granted their admissions department and advisors maybe difficult to get a hold of at times but their RN to BSN program is on point and is one of the cheaper alternatives compared to other programs for the credibility of the name. Feel free to PM if you have anymore questions :)

thank you ktlam!

Gearing up for the program :-)

I will def pm you if I have more questions.

very helpful, thanks.
