Easiest and Toughest Classes In UT Arlington RN-BSN Program

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I am looking to double up on nursing classes while in the RN-BSN program. I realize that it might be wiser to take certain classes alone and not double up. This thread is for everyone enrolled in the RN-BSN program to discuss which classes are the most/least difficult.

Hey guys I have a question,

On my degree evaluation it says I have to take an upper division elective and an upper division nursing elective. What are these classes? Can I choose from different upper division electives, or do they assign them? Also, is the capstone class hard? TIA :)

Thanks :)

So Ayesha1,

Have you begun classes yet, if so how is it going so far?

I'm hoping to apply soon, just waiting for transcripts to get to admissions. A process that seems to take forever!

Hi friends!

I will be starting the RN-BSN online program at UTA in January 2016. I work 40 hours a week as a RN and have a 8 month old son. How doable is this program and what's the recommended course load with my life working Monday-Friday? I have HIST 1312 and both government classes as far as gen eds courses and the rest are the core classes. I know there's no exact answer but any guidance is appreciated. Thanks!

As I attempt to recall requirements of vulnerable populations... Working and school has been a roller coaster ride zooming out of work right into course work.... Definitely not one of your easier classes. Time consuming- Vulnerable populations like most of the difficult classes are difficult because of time and specifications. You will have a lengthy project research paper. You will be required to analyze and describe resources in a town for vulnerable pops. If memory serves me well, You have about 3 major projects in this course. Get an early start on assignments and u should be ok.

Are you also working? Or are you doing this full time? I just graduated from an ADN program and am not sure how much time to schedule for classes. Wanted to work part time while I was in school. Would I be better to just finish the nursing classes before I go to work? Did not want to lose my skill set by doing that but finding it hard to find a job as an ADN.

Wow!! I applaud you for doubling up!! I couldn't do that!! I was stressed enough with taking one class at a time!!

HI everyone,

I'm currently taking Vulnerable Population and having an A average. There are 3 parts project called Community Health Assessment. You MUST use the template they provide otherwise you'll lose point. It was a PITA because it was time consuming. And timed quizzes. 20 minutes for 15 questions. The 2nd part was the trickiest because you need to research a lot of numbers (population, races, ethnicity, etc etc etc). Research, Leadership and Management, Holistic Care were also hard and time consuming. Health Assessment was easy but time consuming. All quizzes are open book but timed. Let's just say when I took Research, I swore to myself I don't want to become a nurse researcher. When I took Leadership, I said I never wanted to be a nurse manager. Now that I'm taking Vulnerable population, I don't want to be a community health nurse.

My question is, I have 2 nursing electives left, 1 Capstone, and Life Span. I'm thinking about taking Legacy of Family and 1 CoOp. Would there be too much work? I took Holistic Care and Health Promotion together. BIG mistake. Both had research papers to write with APA to the T, book review for Health Promotion, quizzes, discussion board x 2 every week. And the coaches actually read and gave feedbacks on your papers. One time I only included 1 author name but there were actually two, and she deducted 30 points off for 1 discussion board grade. Ever since then I only took 1 course every 5 weeks.

Any inputs would be greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

can you please tell me how to register to get the CCRN certification I will appreciated.

I'm not sure if you can do it by yourself. At my hospital, I'll need to get either a charge nurse or a supervisor to register it for me. I must have at least 2 yrs experience on the date I register, not on the date of the exam, so either one of them needs to verify or confirm. My hospital also pays for the review course and exam. I'll say check with your education department first. Good luck!

Hi I just started at UTA and after the initial shock of it (being back in school and it being online) It was not that bad. A lot of writing and board discussions that had to be done in APA style format, but doable.

The electives from what I can tell are:

1) Co-op - I don't know much about this one

2) Medical Terminology -easy but takes time

3) Legacy of the family - I have been warned NOT to take this one.

Classes (hardest to easiest) I would be glad to hear other opinions from recent graduates or people in the program now. Thanks

Med term, super easy.

legacy of family wasn't bad, a bit of writing, but with moderate effort, easy A.

didn't take co-op.

none of the classes are that difficult, follow instructions for everything, check APA format and grammar.

for holistic health assessment, write your assessments almost exactly like it is in the books, but with the specifics for the "patient" you choose.

leadership and management start the stuff early, dont wait until the last second

vulnerable populations, to prepare for quizzes, do the quiz review readings! and theres no way you won't ace em.

any advice for the capstone class?

almost done! week one and this classes instructions seem to be the vaguest of them all. yay, not.
