travel nursing?

hello! So I currently work in corrections...and LOVE IT! However, I am seeing these emails come through for travel correctional nurses, which is peaking my interest.

One company is Supplemental health care. Does anyone know anything about it? I am happy where I am at...so I really want to make sure this is something to leave my current position for.

TIA!

Sure! Supplemental is a major staffing agency. What else?

You might try hedging your bets with a leave of absence from your current job if you have doubts.

well, have tons of questions actually LOL

1. is it somewhat steady work? meaning I get they are assignments and usually 13 weeks..however is it possible to go from one to another assignment- with very little break in work (especially in pay)

2. do they help with license in other states (currently in WI so I have a multi-state)

3. hows the actual company to work for?

4. Relocation pay? how does that work?

5. what about pets/family?

1. Yes.

2. Most agencies reimburse licensure - just the actual license usually, not license verification or CEUs required.

3. I know travelers that like them. I've read negative comments, often about provided housing not supplied, stipend only.

4. Big topic! No relocation pay, you are instead paid $600 to $1,000 round trip from your home. This has to be a "tax home", effectively a residence at home you can return to at any time. Without a tax home, you will not get tax free stipends and all compensation will be taxed as you will be itinerant, without a home. Read more on PanTravelers or Traveltax.

5. What about them? You are not getting housing in the prison!

LOL thanks! I will look up those websites! To number 5...meaning can they come with LOL I talked with one agency (this was a couple of years ago, and they said no :0 ).

Get a housing stipend (which may be Supplemental's only option). Then housing is up to you and you make the rules. Housing will probably cost more with extra pets or bedrooms. Most agencies will make the effort to provide suitable housing but might charge you extra. In some places, it is simply impossible for remote agencies to find housing that will take pets. Some places may have such little housing that you will have to live in a hotel (a couple of Indian hospitals for example).
