Onward/American Mobile

Hey all...

I have traveled before with CC but am looking to get back to Raleigh, NC and they don't seem to have any assignments in that area...I am considering Onward, American Mobile, and RN Newtwork. If anyone has any recent experience with any of these agencies, let me know the good, the bad and the ugly. I know that American Mobile has had a bad rap in the past but don't know what they are like now.

Thanks!

I am currently traveling with RN Network, and they have been very good to me- let me know if you have any specific questions.

I met quite a few American Mobile T's and they seemed happy with there housing and assignments.

I worked only 1 contract with AMN and had no issues. My recruiter was very nice and seemed to be "on my side". Housing was very nice. Unfortunately, AMN had the only contract with the hospital, so there was no competition-thus, very low pay. Even though I have snce switched companies and hospitals, the recruiter still keeps in touch.

Best of luck with your decision. In my opinion, it's kind of a crap shoot on which company you choose, but your recruiter can make a HUGE difference!!

Thanks guys! I TOTALLY agree that it all comes down to the recruiter. I am anxious to get back to Raleigh so will go with the company that can get me there with the best deal.

I have been with AMN for the past year. They have good and bad points. My recruiter is nice, but in it to make herself money. I had to threaten to not resign with her unless she increased my stipen. I live in Los Angeles and after speaking to other travelers, found out they were getting quite a bit more than I was. I e-mailed my recruiter and within the next week had an increase in my stipen.

The nice thing is, they have multiple contracts in every city.

MandyPants, can you send me a message w/your recruiter info? My husband and I are in a similar situation w/American Mobile right now...my stipend is about $1100-2900 less than the other travelers at my hospital, depending on their companies. My recruiters response was basically "tough luck". We have had good experiences w/American Mobile in the past, I'm just hesitant to sign again w/this particular recruiter, but I don't want to just roll the dice on someone else..

I work for a division of American Mobile--Preferred Healthcare...THEY SUCK! It is as if I have to pay them to work for them. My check this past week was for $111.49--40 hours worked. They charged me a $300 "security deposit" for an extra bedroom, as well as $180/month extra, they doubled what I was quoted by the recruiter for domestic partner coverage on the EPO insurance, the complex I was placed in to live here in New Orleans requires a non-refundable $500 pet deposit per pet and Preferred charges another $250 pet deposit! The furniture...chepaest of the cheap, I can feel the springs in the mattress and the sofa and chair are old and stained. The apartment needs many repairs including a door frame that is busted...no response, they use the excuse "we need to investigate". I have been here 8 weeks...no response. There is a gated and a covered parking area, the agency says they don't pay for secured parking, I have to park 3-4 blocks away on a good day. Earlier this week, there was an eviction notice placed on my door, Preferred claims it was a clerical error, the complex says they were not paid.

I have done agency off and on since 1988, I have been an RN for 28+ years and have never worked for an agency that treats their nurses like this! I have had great experiences with MSN, Access, Fastaff (US Nursing), Priority, and Advantage.

STAY AWAY FROM AMN OR PREFERRED! You can try to reason with them until you are blue in the face:eek: and get nowhere.

I plan on jumping ship this week and taking another assignment with a more reliable agency that respects their nurses.:yeah:

Wow, people seem to have vastly different expereinces with American Mobile and their subsidaries.

I work with Preferred Healthcare a part of American Mobile and I like them, my place is nice, things were easy, money is good and my recruiter is right on top of everything. I just started with them this summer but I am staying with them for at least one assignment.

Laorrn: Who was your recruiter (email me privately).

Bones RN: Did you get to NC? I want to go there soon. Please tell me what it is like. I have heard good things about travel jobs at Duke.

I currently work at Duke as a permanent staff however looking to travel for the experience. I would say that Duke is a great place to work and live. We do not alter assignments if your a traveler. we pick the best nurse for the patient. The downfall (as with everything) is the money. We are the lowest paid nurses in this region. Not sure how that would go with travelers. No they get great housing and usually seem to be very happy with their experience at Duke. However the above info. I know of on my floor. Hope this helps a little. Which company are you with?

I personally love American Mobile. I have heard horrible stories with alot of different companies but it really comes down to your recruiter and how brave you get with them. I am currently in NC in Wilmington and love it. They do pay staff really low in this state but my traveler wage is the same i have gotten all over the country and my housing is great!!

I'm with American Mobile and I love it. Seems they always have the most options for jobs here in CA. I guess that's the perk of being with a large company. But, they have many sister companies, so I would think you would get the same package with them.

Maybe it does depend on your recruiter. I trust mine and feel like she is on my side. She's very proactive and is quick to respond to me whenever I call her.

When I hear people say American Mobile sucks...I'm so confused, it has been great for me!

Just keep looking until you get a great recruiter I suppose. I've heard good things about cross country too.
