I am a nurse about to do a travel assignment at memorial herman in houston, texas. I'm hearing mixed views but does anyone know anythings about how they treat their travelers? Also, any tips prior to moving out there? This is my first travel assignment and would love for it to go very smoothly. Thanks in advance!

I have no desire to take an assignment in Texas, but I just had to share a video made with Memorial Hermann nurses for Nurses Week a year ago that I really love! I still watch it from time to time to remind me that I am indeed proud to be a part of this profession :)

I worked my first staff job in that facility and would not go back. They require PBDS and it was a hostile environment in terms of staff/ culture. It's one of those hospitals that is all about survey scores and reputation and are not very supportive of their staff. On another thought, bring your swimsuit. The heat index has been as high as 108 degrees lately, partly due to the extremely miserable humidity, and the only thing people can really stand to do outside is go swimming. For this and a few other reasons, I'm leaving Houston to travel up north soon. Regardless, you can get through 13 weeks of anything.

I'm on my first assignment at UTMB in Galveston and love the hospital it's very traveler friendly. The only down side is you have to go toward Houston at least 30 min to do any good shopping or anything. I have heard from nurses here that I would not want to work anywhere in Houston, but don't have first hand experience. I would recommend UTMB they also do not do PBDS testing here which is a major plus.

Hey ccan,

I am considering taking a travel assignment at Memorial Hermann soon. How was your experience there? Would love for your insight!

Idk if you're talking about memorial Hermann in the med center or their other ones but I did a lot of nursing rotations at memorial Hermann northeast while in nursing school and I liked it. Everyone was nice and they functioned well. That's about all the info I have. And as far as things to do in Houston. Midtown and montrose are two hopping places! And yes it's very hot here. There's a lot of outdoorsy people here that like to cycle and run and all that.
