Run like you have never run before!!!!!!! I did a travel assignment there a few years ago and it was pure hell. The patient ratios was the worse i ever had. It was impossible to get supplies for patients. No help from support staff. Im currently working in Miami. In the last 3 years i have meet 100s of nurses that have worked in that area. Not one of the nurses had a good thing to say. Just one horror story after another. Unless you are extremely desperate for work you had better run !!!!!

Omg!!!! I'm officially nervous!!! I start in less than 2 weeks:-((((. I had a choice to do Adventura, but I chose JFK. O gosh. I pray its ok for me:-/

Im sorry i didnt find your post sooner. What dept are you working? Maybe things have improved since i did my contract there but from the nurses i spoke with its the same. Next time do more research before commiting to any contract with any hospital. Good Luck and i mean that with the utmost sincerity !!!!

I did tele also. Expect a high turn over of pts. You will do 4 to 5 admits per shift. Especially if you do days. Pay special attention to direct administrations. Doctors send over direct admits in distress. I have had to call code blue on direct admits many times while at JFK. Watch you back. Being a traveler there means you get the worse pt assignment every day. They just throw pts at you there , no notice admits are coming until they are there.

What?!!! O geez. How about nights? Should be slower. Thank goodness I'm not doing days!! Is it good having residents @ all times?

Having the residents there is good if you need orders at 3am. Im not sure if the resident 24 7 thing is true. It was not when i was there. Nights is not much better because you are expect to take more pts than the days. Also the hospitals in that area are very hotel like. Working nights you will receive very angry pts from ER and you are expect to make meal arrangements at that time.

Also the pts in that area are the most rude and demanding you will ever meet. Mostly rich New York Jewish . Just curious where are you from? This your first assignment?

Not trying to kill your only good response but there is a HUGE difference between ER and the floors. I currently work ER and its a world easier in my opinion. Im not trying to sound negative and i hope you have a great experience. Im just trying to make you aware as possible. When i was there i would often receive ER patients that were extremely angry. Complaining they sat in the ER for hours and nothing was done. Blood pressure through the roof , no meds given, no food, complaint after complaint about the ER care. So yea ER there is easy because almost every pt i received from that ER had nothing but complaints and would take it out on the floor nurse.
