Interested in Hawaii, have pets!

by texan

I have never traveled before. I am interested in traveling to Hawaii but have two dogs that I will not leave behind. Do the travel agencies find you housing and if so would they be likely to accomadate two pups? Also, those of you who travel, do you keep a home base with all your stuff, do you store, or sell everything? And to anyone whos been to Hawaii, will I need a car once there and is Honololou dog friendly?

Thanks,
Jenn

I was told that travel companies will find pet friendly accomodations, but that you have to quarantine your dogs to go to Hawaii because the state has no rabies. This may have changed since I last looked into it a few years ago.

Default Quarantine

I looked into the quarantine situation and if certain criteria are met dogs can qualify for 5 day or less quarantine to enter Hawaii! See website.

Yes, there is away around the 6 month quarantine. By having a rabies titer drawn 6 months before you plan to go to Hawaii, you only have to quarantine your dogs for three days. Problem with that is, what is available now (jobs) may not be available in 6 months. If I remember correctly the titer was a little expensive. (It could only be sent to a certain lab. University of Kansas I think??) I would love to go to Hawaii, but not willing to spend the money on a chance they might have a job for me.

At least it was that way last time I checked. It may be different now because that was a couple of years ago. Good luck!!
