Altering Contract Terms

I am interviewing for my third travel contract. I have been a med/surg float traveler for 14 months between the two places I have been. I would like to be (more) unit-specific. If I am NOT interviewing for float positions, is it fair/realistic/??? to alter my contract to state that I will only float once a week or only for a 12-hour shift at a time (versus 4 hours on one unit and 8 on another)? Just curious...

You can make those specifications in your contract, but they may just choose someone more flexible over you due to those stipulations...

You'd be more apt to get that you will float in turn with rest of staff rather than you only float 1x a week or so. Being a traveler means being expected to be flexible....unfortunately.

Express your preference to your agency (agencies). Hopefully they will filter your choices. Then ask the interviewing manager about floating. One or both may either lie or be unaware of the actual circumstances on the floor so it will never be certain. All you can do is try.
