hey everyone,

i am a travel nurse. recently a hospital that i am working for is wanting me to stay. i am considering it but i would like advice on how to go about discussing this with the manager of the unit. i have been told to ask for sign on bonus, relocation and or assistance with rent for a period of time due to the high cost of livng in the area. if i ask for relocation assistance what does that entail? any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Isn;t this handled through your travel agency rep? Why not call them and ask? We have had 2 travellers so far, one good the other great and we asked one to stay on but she is movin on back closer to home(she is from Kansas)

Forget about any of that for the moment, you need to take a close look at the contract that you signed with the agency that placed you there.

Most have a clause that you cannot accept a position at the facility where they placed you for one year. You will need to get their permission first, and most require a buyout on that, to the tune of about $10,000.

I would check out your contract first.

If they ask you to stay on, it is usually with an extension of your travel contract. Not as their staff, unless they are wishing to pay the fee to the agency, then you can say good-bye to any type of bonus, it will go to the agency. You need to be upfront with your agency first. Before anything else.

She is looking at going staff there, not renewing the contract with the agency that placed her there.

no they want me to come on as a staff member not to extend my contract. i am leaving for the summer and the NP pulled me aside and said "i want to keep you" and then asked what would it take for me to come on staff. she knows that i am leaving for the summer but she wants me to come back as staff. That is good advice about my contract i will look at it. i am not going to do anything right away but i wanted to get an idea of what i would be need to ask for and such?

thanks

One of the Agencies in our area, charges up to $ 15,000 as a fee for the Facility to buy the Agency Nurse. I would say we ARE worth it but I would rather the fee go the the Nurse and not the Agency.

Let us know how you make out; it will be interesting to know how it turns out.
